Hey guys,

I just bought a 2006 BF XR6. I got it at a really good price, and that's why I didn't opt for a turbo...The turbo's were at least 5 grand more, and were at least 2 or 3 years older...

What I want to know is, would it be worth putting a turbo in it? How much will it set me back, and is this possible? I don't know about the differences in engine specs between the XR6 and the XR6T, but I was unsure if an aftermarket turbo could be fitted...

They seem to hold value MUCH more than a standard XR... If I put a turbo in, what else would I need to do? Like tunes etc... know the power increase is fairly substantial...and I feel it may hold its value more...

Last question - everyone keeps telling me that turbos use lots more fuel - even as much as a V8 - is that true???

Thanks everyone,

Dan

I think it will set you back alot more than the $5K difference it is at the moment.

Not worth messing around. You should have just bought a Turbo to start with.

There was a few of us that went upto Baw Baw on Sunday and for the whole trip I averaged 14.2L per 100k's but that included a very spirited drive there and back. Dunno how a V8 would have compared.

Edited cars can get better fuel economy but not at full throttle.

I helped a mate Turbo his XL Ute and let me tell you it was a massive *% around.

He thought it would have been a lot cheaper to do but kept running into problems along the way.

Little sh*t like Oil Lines that are uber expensive from ford, A new wiring harness for the whole front of the car was about $500. Lots of things like that that he kept having problems with.

And after he got it installed with a much larger intercooler and full custom exhaust he only run 226 RWKS on the tune cos that's all it had in it.

And on top of all that he has had more problems since the tune with the manifold bolts always coming loose, Exhaust bolts coming loose. Lots of small things but not the sort of stuff you want to start doing as soon as you get it finished.

So in the words of someone who has done it

BUY A FACTORY TURBO

I doubt a car converted to turbo would fetch as much as an ORIGINAL turbo??? So I dont think it would hold its value to the point your thinking...

Shoulda got the T in the first place, but I guess a complete turbo motor would be cheaper than $5000 after you sell your N/A engine to recoop some of the costs, but then you have to factor in, exhaust, wirings, cooler and anything else different from N/a xr's to the T's... Are the drivelines the same??
