MrBean Member 400 Member For: 19y 15d Location: Melbourne Posted 02/02/08 04:25 AM Share Posted 02/02/08 04:25 AM Depending how far it's out, and to much advance or retard.Advanced timing will cause detonation, although misfires might manifest itself, especially above 3-3.5k rpm - again very dependant on max advance then.Retarded timing will generally cause the engine to run way hotter than normal, the reason being the combustion process still happening when the piston is already way down the bore, and thus exposing greater amounts of cylinder-wall to heat input.Retarded timing would also cause your engine to rev up fairly slow, and be sluggish at best.Just my expereince on V8 turbo setups, might be different on the 6 which I am not familiar with to that extent.Let us know what they find. It would have to be a crook sensor, I'd be checking the fault codes, the knock sensor could be the culprit. Cars these days don't even have an adjustment for the timing (no dizzy), most of the time they have an inductive pickup or something similar on the crank harmonic balancer or flywheel to let the computer know where top dead centre is, the computer takes in the info from that and the other sensors on the engine and sets your timing to suit.
