Hi guy, I just have bought a typhoon with 4000kms on it and my fuel consumption is absolutly

shocking. Im getting 19.5L p/100kms, I know I have been giving it a bit of stick but come on

350kms to a tank? has anyone else had this problem? what are other typhoon owners getting to

a tank? I drove back from melbourne when I bought it and got 450kms on the highway, this is thr only thing I can fault with the car. Intersted to see what everyone else is getting

The R Spec has now done 845 klm and have taken it up to 220 and averaged about 110 on the open road and the average fuel is reading is presently 10.6. I used to find in the BA Phoon when the usage got up, disconnecting the battery and leaving it disconnected for 10 mins or so would improve the consumption from 16.5 back to around 12 - 13 per 100klm.

The whitelines I use are 27 mm on the front, and an adjustable 23 on the back left on its softest setting.

The best handling improvement I got from the BA phoon was to change the fluid filled front control arm bushes to the pedders solid nolathane ones, cost about $350 including the bushes. It keeps the car much more stable, especially under high speed braking. The wheels can actually move 1.5 to 2cm backwards with the standard crap ford fluid filled things. I havn't had a chance to put the whitelines on the car yet, and the R Specs certainly handle better than a standard phoon, but I noticed quite a bit of bounce yesterday when I zipped it over 200 for 30 seconds or so (on my private road of course) :spoton: the whitelines get rid of it.

Mate, it's a great place and most of the people are fantastic, but make sure you don't go to south central or Compton. It's really bad now ,Latino gangs etc. Even Santa Monica and the beaches are infested with homeless people and war vets, keep ya hand on ya wallet. When I was there in Feb an ABC producer lent us his shiny new Merc coupe for a couple of days and the sat nav took us to south central about midnight. Never seen anything like it, drugo zombie land. Those little Mercs go real quick in reverse. Told him the next day and he freaked. Get down to San Diego if you can, it's a great place. So is New York now believe it or not, feels much safer. You will have a ball. I'm heading back to New York in Mid May.

Go to PEP Boys, it's a US version of Super Cheap, only about 100 times bigger and buy yourself a Rocky Mountain Radar model RMR C450, they are only US $130 and they jam the hand held theiving machine the boys in blue point from behind telephone poles, it amuses me when I pass them with the thing screaming on the dash and look in the mirror to see the copper tapping his hand held. They also pick up speed cameras and in car police radar and are 100% undetectable. Mine will pick up a highway patrol car with active radar from 5klm away, which means 8 to 10 klm in real distance. All is fair in driving and revenue raising I reckon

Gday Hypnodoc, welcome to the R Spec club.

I have just ordered the Super pro inner lower control arm bushes and will have them fitted soon with Tein coilovers and some new wheels.

I now have 4300klms on the clock and average consumption from new is 15.2

Thus far all is good, a couple of problems with the paint that has been fixed under warranty and a small electrical gremlin which seems to have gone.......oh, and the driveline clunk which seems to be a no cost option.

Cheers

Rob

Hi Rob

Guess you got a manual with the complimentary clunk. I have to say it's great to have an auto after 21/2 years in the manual BA Phoon. All I have had so far is the exhaust knocking on the floor which was fixed today. I reckon they are a fantastic car and am looking fwd to getting all the go fast bits swapped over and a flash tune while I'm away next week. Also realised the back calipers aren't Brembo so the rear ones on the BA are coming on to the R Spec with the whiteline sway bars. Done 1200 klms since friday so I guess it's run in enough now. A nolathane rear diff bush and stronger bolt stopped a lot of clunking in the BA manual, but apparently the BF has a biger but weaker bush, not sure if they have made an after market one for the BF yet? I'm going to do the front lower control arm ones in a couple of weeks, you will notice a big directional, handling, and stability improvement when yours are done. Enjoy
