We used to get them at work and they were always f*cked. They don't own them so they are driven like they are stolen. The wheels, brakes and suspension are always rooted and the engine always cops a really hard life – especially in hwy patrol cars. The interior is also buggered as they drill holes everywhere and constant wear and tear on the seats and trim.In my opinion, run in the other direction…"mmm" interesting. I bought a 2004 BA XR6 Turbo (Ex Highway Patrol) 43k on clock. Also paid 27k. Mate I cannot fault the vehicle. I did do my research first though in the sense that I found out it was a country car not a city one and it was the sarg's car so chances of it being thrashed were minimal. Only problem interior wise was a hole in the drivers seat from his pistol but that was fully repaired under warranty. I have added flash tuner, airbox, actuator and exhaust mods which is enough in itself to near prepare you for vertical take off lol.Fair enough there were a couple of minor marks where the stickers were which weren't buffed out and a small ding in the roof above door where the lights were positioned. But hey I got a 18 month old car and saved 15000 on the price of a new one. Buying a ex cop car needn't be any different to buying a second hand car anywhere else. Personally I'm rapped. I drive my cars hard and this girl has copped a whopping since I have had her and I have nothing to complain about. The imperfections it came with is not going to cost me anywhere near what I saved by purchasing it. You can get a lemon with any purchase. I admit I was lucky but again I did my research first. If its a city car forget it as they are thrashed but also do alot of start-stopping which wears out internals quicker than long country runs. The only dramas I have had is brake rotors (they dont last LOL) that's my fault...not the carsShop around, it's definitely a buyers market out there. But dont have alot of faith in the warranty. If there was any decent mechanics at some of these dealerships (hint hint) it might be worth something but BELIEVE me....its not. I don't want to crash this site with the personal experiences I have had with a few ford mechanics. If your not that way inclined just take a mate or someone that knows what there talking about mechanically shopping with you. Best of Luck mate. Everyone has an opinion. This is just another one from someone who does have an ex HWP.

I'm a convert from team red - This will be my first Ford EVER!Hoping to pick-up my BF II tomorrow or Wednesday. It too is an ex-cop car, 11/06 build with 49k on the clock, for $23K.Still under warranty and I've taken out extended warranty under my novated lease also (being an ex-cop car).Drivers seat padding is quite worn and the interior isn't the cleanest. But you get what you pay for and at that price I'm a happy chappy! It too has the squealing brakes. Is this common on the ex-cop cars?Welcome mate.Me - 2004 BA XR6T Ex HWPVery happy with my baby but she does sqeel like a slaughtered pig when braking. I got it with the PBR's but I soon killed them at Mt Panorama on a cruise with the boys. Went to RDA's - have lasted less then 12 months. Am currently looking for the right combination as I type this. Looking at DBA 4000's but nearly fell over at the price. To those guys who say stay way......obviously poor buggers that had a bad run...that can happen with any high performance second hand vehicle not just ex chasers

tooslow Member 6 Member For: 15y 10m 13d Posted 12/01/09 12:21 PM Share Posted 12/01/09 12:21 PM I couldn't agree more. About 2 years ago before I got my xr6 turbo I did quiet a few test drives. A couple were an XR8 and an XR6 Turbo ex cop cars , same age as the one I ended up buying and similar Km of around 50,000km. however the ex-cop cars were a mess. The entire dash rattled at the first sign of a pot hole. The V8's rotors had visible cracking indicating very hard braking regularly, when I pointed that out to the sales guy he offered to replace them but I declined buying it because it just showed how much that car had been thrashed and how hard a life it had lived. That car was around 3K cheaper than the non cop car, but for the sake of a few grand it was far safer to get a non cop car that hadn't be pushed to its maximum limits most of its life. I couldn't tell about the engine but its a fairly good assumption that it was stressed a lot more than a family owned xr6 turbo car would have been. Think about it how many times can a regular road user push that hard and not lose their license? And 2 years later I have had no issues yet with the regular family owned 2nd hand xr6 turbo that I bought. (touch wood)I wouldn't touch an ex cop car with 400ft barge pole. We used to get them at work and they were always f*cked. They don't own them so they are driven like they are stolen. The wheels, brakes and suspension are always rooted and the engine always cops a really hard life – especially in hwy patrol cars.
