Hi all

I have about $30k to spend and I want to get a T. I have noticed on the carsales website that they have a few 06 BF XR6T’s that were cop cars. The kays are low and the price is in my range BUT are they good value???

All I can see is that they are stock from the factory with only reverse sensors and side airbags as an option. Is there anything I am missing?

I guess the pro of buying something like this is that there still is factory warranty on them compared to other sub $30k T’s.

Anyone bought ex cop cars on this forum? I would like to know if you have been happy or unhappy with it.

Thanks, Ben

If your talking about a NSW ex-HWP car then if you hang on a lil longer you could even pick up a phoon in a few months.

Lots of rumors and myths about them but you take the good with the bad. Interior is always a bit different, with holes here and holes there and even some in the boot, but mechanically they are very well looked after. And the drivers seat is always the worst, as there guns tend to rub there alot on the wrap around seats.

But you will definately get the balance of the warranty unless your in NZ and then I have no idea.

Common question youve asked and if you search on here you will find other topics on this subject.

I.B.

What astounds me is the prices you guys in Australia pay for second hand XR6T's. A few of us at work have had XR6T's and they are slowly coming up for renewal. Company policy is dump them at auction and choose whatever you want as a replacement. A colleague in the middle of last year decided to opt out of the company car scheme so threw his 18 month old (BA2) XR6T, black, 25k's, lux, tints, back to the company who put it in at Turners Car Auctions (NZ's car auction specialists) and it sold for NZ$27,600 (Au$23,700).

Admittedly that is wholesale, but they are coming up all the time here now, especially with the way fuel prices are going.....

When I hand mine back this time next year at 100k's it'll probably go for well under NZ$20k....

nah mate, stay away! one kilometer in a cop car is worth about 10 in a regular car! especially more pursuit type ones like the t... you can do better than an ex cop car that's for sure

Check up on what they mean by 'Ex Cop Cars'.

When I looked on the net for my T the ad from the dealer said Ex cop Car, however I rang the dealers to enquire and they said it was a division of QLD Police called family services that visted less fortunate families/individuals for counseling and what not. The dealer said the most likely reason they got a XR6T for such a tame job was to establish a rapport with the youths.

So I took his word and flew down to sunny coast to pick it up and sure enough it was in excellent condition, the interior was fine, no drill holes or worn seats or anything, just a tiny bit of fading on the centre console and right door that where obviously used as arm rests. Full service history (at every 15,000 rather than 7,500 though) with new tyres and the only damage I could spot was a few scabies under the front bumper and the battery just now after around 3 months is starting to fade out.

I paid 31,000 for it.

So it might be worth looking a bit further into it but if it's one of the highway patrol FPV's that you see around I'd probably avoid it.

They dont come with any warranty youll find I had a 2 year old BA ex undercover, ford wipe warranty as soon as its sold by the cops,

Um that's a load of crap, I used to work at a dealership and they put cop car sh*t through warrenty all the time. pursuit cars, squad cars, divyvans the lot. only reason it wouldnt have warrenty on it coz its got to many k's or too old,

Reminds me that another member on here bought his T from some church group.

I don't know whether you're talking about me but yeh, I bought from a dealer that had a XR6T that was ex Baptist Church with 5000 km on it. I paid $35K for it about 9 months ago and it's absolutely immaculate. It was better than the price Gregory's Ford here in Canberra could do for a newy at $45K with exactly the same options.

Well obviously its not the same for all cars and dealers mine had 63ks 2.5 years old when I got it and ford wouldnt touch it under warranty (last time I checked it was 3 years 100k) they told me how can they be expected to warrant problems when it had been thrashed for those ks I was the second owner from the cops previous was a solicitor. Ford will do anythin to get out of payin for things. I only really had 2 problems with the car rear right stub axle and problems and also with coil packs and plugs, big gbox whine to but hey that's expected I guess, the only reason I would stay away is the fact that they have a hard life, yeh they are serviced but they are treated like total poo in most cases, even though the T will take why not just spend a bit more money and get one that's been looked after

Watched many a cop car mount gutters an medium strips turning for pursuits.

I wouldnt buy another one still dont get any options which in reality you spend your time in the car so why not have nice things like prem sound etc. these cars dont have nice options and they are treated poorly, my opinion if you could get your self somethin like a church car or a car not out of the HWP group you may get a good one. Just pay the bit extra and get a priv owned car that's been treated a hell of a lot better.

I have another T now private owned old couple an its a totally diff car, very tight, still feels new in everyway doesnt have the rattles an squeaks like the last one.
