Hi All,

I had a funny noise ( echo's) but it only happens when I let go of the accelerator. Anyway got it booked in with Ford. They said its damaged and they will replace it. However the diff replacement has a 2 month back log.

I'm curious if anyone else has had this problem with their diff and if they have to wait 2 months?

My ute is a late 06 BF II build

Cheers

Dorko

I notice that my auto 03 ute sounds like it howls very very lightly when I back off from about 80klm onwards. Ive got 57,000klm's and I changed the diff oil at 50,000. Made no difference. Otherwise it drives fine.

The diffs are a bit hit n' miss. Went through about half a dozen of the bloody things with my BA, never had your problem though, was just the usual whine.

The waitlist length seems about right though

Is the howl that ive got really an issue though? Its quite a low sound and it drives fine otherwise. Only when I back off though, I wasnt sure if it was the Auto or the Diff?

on my ba non turbo ute it started to get a whine and then probably a week later it turned into crazy clunky noises, got towed to the dealer and some teeth were missing in it, they replaced no questions asked. not long after I got it back the whine is still there but only minimal. also our work ba ute has had 3 replacements

Is it around the 90-95 km/h mark?

I would say from about 80 on. When I changed the oil in the diff there were no signs of metal in the oil.

The first diff in my ute whined at 100km/h. Drove me crazy!

My current one whines a little at 95 but I don't care as I never sit on 95.

If you see small metal filing in the oil don't be alarmed, it's normal. If you see chunks of metal then you've got a problem.

If I ever have another noisey diff I'm going to strip it down and check everything over. I'd be interested to see if all these problems are just caused by them not being assembled within the correct specs.

Wow, Seems like most people have the same problem. Well if it drives you crazy like myself. Then get Ford to replace it under warranty.

Its amazing that it happens so often. IS it just a weak diff?
