Please don't use logic....conspiracy theories are much more entertaining

how is it logical to expect a tuner not to charge you for work that has nothing to do with them?

As said before the tune is basically a cut and paste in this situation with a couple of pulls on the dyno to fine tune AFRs and Boost (Custom LOL).

correct the bloke that tuned my car last did it in 3 dyno runs=1/2 hour then a road test finished, and before anyone says dodgy tune or he doesn't know what he is doing, blah blah it's the bloke that helped develop the software

Tab's joking!

That's in reference to another ongoing saga.

We hear the good old "you get what you pay for" line all the time. The fact is you can also not get what you pay for. My gearbox is a perfect example.

I think the price of the tune is reasonable. When I first got my ute tuned CAPA boxes were $1395 RRP, so you guys are really lucky these days. The tuning was another $600. I got 3 custom tunes done for that price. I was there for the whole time it was getting tuned. The tune is 90% complete very quickly but then a heap of time was spent getting the little things spot on.

These days everything is so much cheaper and there's a lot more competition out there. Things like tunes, CAPA boxes, intercooler and injectors can be had for a fraction of the price they could only 2-3 years ago!

The guys currently modding these cars are really very lucky IMO. There's so much info out there these days it's really all quite easy and cheap!

Custom work still takes time. Although I guess that depends on who is doing it.

I use Nizpro. By no means the cheapest but I know I'm getting oen of the best tuners in the country and that's something you have to pay for.

I guess if you don't like the price you can only take it somewhere else.

You SA guys must remember what happened in the past when some of you thought they were getting tunes done cheap?

Wasn't really worth saving a few bucks was it. It some cases it ended up costing a lot more.

prob one of the most sensible posts here and from a Mod to  I to paid the price of being one of the first to mod on my Ba and am very happy with the hardware prices I have paid on my BF but the tunes are taking less time than they used to as they get better at it but the prices doubling overnight.....................SH IT

if you want to see it go we will be at Heathcote on Sunday

What mods are you running.......... IMO that if the mods are minimal the custom tune should be not that costly. As said before the tune is basically a cut and paste in this situation with a couple of pulls on the dyno to fine tune AFRs and Boost (Custom LOL).

However if the mods are many then the tuning process will be far more involved. Injector scalers / Actuator opening rates bla bla bla...

Just my 2c

I agree o2stock! wot mods are u having done?? that's a ok price I think last time I seen the kpm web site it was around 1,600 for flash & dyno tune.

Hi, what a can of worms this has opened! LOL,

My car is a 04 Stock as a rock ( no I lie ) I have jammed a POD on instead of the standard air filter & vented out the BOV to atmosphere

Surely this cant take a full day & $890! I mean I thought these specialists were meant to be the leaders in there fields! ........ IE they should be able to take a stock XR6T slap it on the Rollers jam the box in, upload & start the rollers going, FLUF me DRUNK! jeabers how long does that take?

ok, ok ok, I understand that there might be tweaking to do cos every car is different so another 7hrs and 35minutes???????????

or maybe they might play nicer music in the waiting room or impress you with there custom made "TEAM" sponsored work shirts. Or they might even just tell you how much more difficult and tricky it is than just plug n play.

WELL GUESS WHAT? IF IT TAKES YOU THAT LONG & THAT MUCH EFFORT TO DO A 2HR TUNE IN 8HRS TRY OTHER GETTING ANOTHER JOB.

but that's just my opinion. There are people out there who dont have to worry about money, who do live at home with MUM & DAD who can P*SS it up against the wall.

I have a mortgage & two kids, most of these performance items & tuners do attract the younger market and I feel they do take advantage of the more gullible , unsuspecting or inexperienced car enthusists.

but that's my two cents.

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH

I'm sorry AJN but could you please tell me how you are qualified to comment on what it takes to tune a car?

It annoys me when people question the time and costs of something based only on what they think it should take without having any real knowledge of the process.

If you have those financial concerns maybe you shouldn't be modifying the car at all. $890 for 3 tunes is chicken feed compared to the repair bills modified cars can throw up at you without notice.
