Hi all,

I have just got a quote for a CAPA box $495 ( from KPM in Adelaide ) Great Deal! I thought. Next step, get it on the dyno for a proper tune ( as the standard CAPA ones apparently arent that reliable ) I thought "hmmmmmm" if I get them to supply the box & tune at the same time I might get the tune a bit cheaper. I have been quoted for the box & tune $1390!...........

This seems a bit excessive $890 for a tune?

I know this is chalk & cheese but when I used to get my Pulsars dyno'd it was only a couple of hundred and a couple hrs work TOPS!

for $890 bucks id want a lap dance for 2 hours while its getting done,

can any one help me??????? is this the going rate these days???

Andrew

it varies between tuners mate, but I reckon they would be giving you 3 tunes for that, which isn't too bad really IMO

I got mine done at RDP and that's pretty much what it cost me for 3 tunes. Took them about 3.5hrs or so... Dyno time isnt cheap though mate.

Depends on what you get. If your box comes with generic tunes sometimes it can be cheaper as they will just modify the generic ones, which is quicker.

Again, depends on tuner hey.

It really is the old saying "You get what you paid for".

If you dont like the price, get prices from somewhere else. If you think about it at worst case you go somewhere else & have to pay a little bit more for the Capa box but the tune is cheaper then it may work out the same.

It seems to be one of those "specialist" markets where people can charge whatever they like. Some people charge a premium, and some are a little more fair when it comes to weighing up the effort they put in versus what they charge the customer.

You can pay 1200 for a tune so $890 sounds likes it's in the upper range of the middle bracket. Can you go back for tweaks at no charge if your not happy with your tune? When they say you get 3 tunes, that's a bit of a misconception. Mostly they do your power tune which is where most of the effort goes> Then for your "95" tunes and such, they'd pull some timing, fuel and perhaps boost - that is a minor process.

there are a couple of very good tuners that will do it for half or a third of that price

mmm got editted hey daz.To hell with the members of the forum. They don't need a good job at a good price. They just need to use a tuner who supports this forum whatever he charges. No alternatives or discussion about alternatives allowed.

Must be a lot of genuine big hearted Aussies running this forum who hold the ideals of a fair go and doing the right thing by your mates........or maybe not.

WTF ACCC inplications, come on we are not stupid just say it's the sponsorship thing and move on.......ACCC pfft I didn't even name anyone :hohum:

$890 for what is pretty much a copy and paste tune with a bit of fine tuning, and if you think it's not your kidding yourself, the only tuner I have heard of that isn't maybe headsex as he datalogs.......most don't and I have had tunes from at least 5 tuners and guess what? the cheap ones were the best
