Police had no intention of slowing people down just booking them.If they had a warning up ahead or if there car was visible people would have either slowed up or still been booked as nobody seemed to know the speed limit. there are no houses about the place, its not a built up area???Sounds like unprofessional policing. I mean slapping excessive numbers of fines on people does nothing for community relations.I would pay the fine then email someone, not sure who, to lodge a complaint about their tactics, esp in light of the area they were policing. Ombudsman perhaps.Wonder if its a known black spot.

Now what do you think everyone else was doing? 110kph of course! no-one would overtake him because they didn't want to get booked. If the police did this more often, it would slow everyone down and be more kindly looked upon compared to cops hiding behind rocks with hairdryers! There are mobile speed cameras in unmarked cars everywhere, the are run by private operators and don't ever have any warning signs or markings. You just get the fine and loss of points in the mail about 14 days later

I allegedly got hit by a hand held LIDAR unit by a motorcycle cop (detector didn't go off at all and I've got a grill mounted fron unit). I asked him where he tagged me and his response was, "I dunno". Heh I wasn't far off the back sides of the fire trucks so I figure he nabbed them first and then saw me.Oh well, I was possibly over the limit and I'll cop it on the chin (better than a bloody camera) being as it was a real human but it was the 6 points I accumulated in one hit that sucked the most. 85th percentile my back side. That being said, if a cop is speeding a bit, I might pick up the pace a little too.

I know they are not allowed to set up speed cameras at the bottom of a hill. but in qld (sorry mate not sure where u are from) if there are no speed signs, you have to assume the speed limit of 50kph in urban areas, and 100kph in rural areas. so I guess your lucky you werent in a 50 zone. but you have pics and other offenders, take it to court. Look at the pole in front of the police cae.... It's at at road crossing to make it worse. I would take these pictures to Superintendant of a station and insist that the officer be charged. The pics have the car number.... I presume that he was using a hand held Laser gun. At what distance did he clock your speed? If he clocked you at a long range you could argue that the radar sights are not telescopic and therefore are not accurate at long range. I forget the term that they use, but it relates to the movement made while using the gun ( Hand shake, movement from breathing in and out). My brother is an Enginer and he calculated thaT 1 degree movement over 400m to be roughly 3 meters movement. The longer the distance - The wider the beam becomes. The laser beam can and does travel through glass. They aim the laser at your number plate. You could argue that with the movement of the laser gun during it's operation it passed through the screen and got the car behind you. Was the gun overdue for it's recalibration. You could also try to get his shooting record from the academy and prove that he is a poor shot.Good luck :-) Edited 29/01/08 08:09 AM by HI PSI
