Territory Turbo As A Tow Car?

Hey guys,

considering upgrading my tow car. Currently using a 98 Range Rover which is coping well but struggles to maintain speed and at 10 years old I'm starting to have some concerns for reliability and possible high repair costs!

Anyway, I am towing 2-2.2t regularly (most weekends) alternating between really hilly stuff (out to murray bridge) and pretty flat stuff, round trip around 150km. I am considering a Territory turbo, I know they have all the grunt I would need but I am concerned about durability of drive train, etc to the kind of stress regular towing would put it through?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. :longlaugh:

A TT would be a great tow car. Give it an edit tune for some extra kws and it would pull a house up a hill!

Go for it

agreed, the terri's are rated at 2300kg, so they will tow your load quite easily.

As Chris said, get it tuned and you could probably get some more midrange torque to make overtaking and hills effortless

Thanks for the feedback guys. Its just when I bought the range rover I looked at Territory Turbo's and some of the sales guys didn't have confidence to recommend them for the weight I was towing and showed concern for the drivetrain durability and potential over heating issues with the turbo. Instead pushing me towards a V8 Sedan. So I was wondering if in the last couple of years if any maintenence or reliability issues had raised their head.

Thanks again guys!

Edit- done plenty of reading/searching on here in the last while and have already decided if I got one, the bung in the exhaust would go and one of Brett's from A.P.E. LPG injection set ups would be on the top priority list! :msm:

Warranty will sort out any broken bits when towing.

They are a great car, especially for long hauld as they love the open roads.

I agree that TT's make an excellent tow package, and power will never be a problem, but when towing I would only run in factory tune, otherwise you would be constantly running a high torque figure through the transmission and whole drivetrain.

A recent tow test in a 4wd mag, tested every 4wd with heavy towing and the only one that was able to retain the same speed up hills was a Territory, and that wasn't even a turbo, the Disco 3 came second.

Barry- that's pretty much the exact information I was looking for :joy:

On the tune point, how would I control what tune was being used at what time? Are there flashes or plug ins that allow you to stwitch between tunes?

Barry- don't let the haters get to you re the CX9 purchase, nice bit of car! I've got a bit of a soft spot for them...

Yes, with the Edit (or Ford Flash tuner) you just plug it in under the dash and choose between factory setting or up to 3 more tunes, only takes about 2-3 minutes to download, and away you go!
