Evaporative Air Conditioning

I used to be in the aircon trade and after installing countless of both I prefer evap cooling, that being said canberra has very dry air. For evap aslong as its not blowing a gail outside keep the living rooms windows open as this will greatly improve the cooling effect.

It would be unusual that they did not install a big enough unit, what I would suggest is for you to stick your head into the roof with a touch and make sure that the duct isnt folding on itself.

Is the issue that the house cooling to a low enough temp of not cooling fast enough?

The house is cooling, I would just like it to be as cool as possible. The old unit seemed like it was performing better, pushing in more air.

I was either thinking of installing a new inverter or putting a bigger motor in just so the house stays really cool on those extra hot days.

I live I Kalgoorlie so evaporative air conditioning works well in this area.

I used to live in Kal and the Evap worked quite well,

Get up on your roof and pull the filters that the water trickles down over, give them a really good clean,

If you live anywhere near the superpit, they could be clogged up with dust.

Also while your up there, run the unit and make sure water is trickling out the top

channels, no water, no cool, a replacement pump is ~$150.

These units really are robust and work very well in Kal, they're simple to fix yourself too.

I'd hate to see what they'd charge you to fit a refrigerative unit.

I blew a bearing in mine and one of the tradies wanted to rebuild my unit for $1200

I went to goldfields bearing supplies and got a bearing for $12.00 and replaced it...

Unit worked fine for two more years. (probably still going...but I sold the house.)

and the motor is actually 100W smaller than the old motor and the air con is not cooling the house as well as what it used to.

I am looking at upgrading the motor if possible to a larger unit.

I would like to know if anyone here can offer any assistance, my air con has 5 outlets and if I upgrade the motor I would like to go upto an 800-850Watt unit, will this actually provide better cooling?

Can this be done? does anyone know how much extra air flow will be priveded by doing this? what sort of costs am I looking at?

Thanks

I work with air cons allot as an electrician mate and id stick with the evap cos a reverse cycle ducted system will set u bak around the ten grand mark. split system wall mounted inverters are the way to go for cooling a room but to do a whole house they wont cut the mustard unless u instal a few. if the air flow isnt very strong form the ducts and u have long runs to your vents then u may need a bigger unit but ud think the company that installed it would know that wen they quoted u

Think you may have actually meant “apologies” :spoton:

One of the fundamental things with the evap units as well is that windows have to remain open - a cousin of mine was about to rip his unit out of his new house until I made this point.....and eventually convinced him that no I wasn’t actually taking the piss :oohwoah:
