I think it's a good thing english can evolve... A language such as French is so tightly controlled, for example the word email needed to go through a committee prior to it been approved as a word that could be spoken in the French language. English on the other hand we can come up with new words and new meanings as the need arises, we don't need to have a word "approved" by a committee which can take many years for it to happen.

And you don't by using the wrong "their"? Are you sure that you didn't mean, "they're"?

And I am sure that you meant to type "spelled", right?

I am not having a dig at you two really. I am just using you two to reinforce the point of the original post. :innocent:

"spelt" and "spelled" are both verbs , the words should be used in a complete sentence to determine if the tense is correct.

I spelt the word correctly.

I have spelled the word correctly.

Past Simple/Past Participles

The following verbs have two acceptable forms of the past simple/past participle in both American and British English, however, the irregular form is generally more common in British English (the first form of the two) and the regular form is more common to American English.

Spell spelt OR spelled

Burn Burnt OR burned

Dream dreamt OR dreamed

Lean leant OR leaned

Learn learnt OR learned

Smell smelt OR smelled

Spill spilt OR spilled

Spoil spoilt OR spoiled

Gee you're nice. I said my parents had trouble when they came here. that was 30 years ago. They are more then capable of understanding the language now. Its not easy moving to a different country, on the other side of the world, and learning a new language. Can you speak 2 languages you twit .

Judging people on two sentences

I love it..........

Why does knife have a K?

By the way I was referring to this in the first post trough lolly.

It has a silent K the same has Knot if you were unaware.

Twit or twot perhaps a *beep*,

English expressions such as that?

you flame him, he flames thee

then lock the thread for none to see

perhaps in jest was TL posting

Perhaps not and he was roasting..

A battle here cannot be won

so may as well just have some fun

of his post, take no offense

naught can be gained by such defense.

Frankly I love the ambiguity of our language,

it's fun to play with.
