Hi There,

Firstly Id like to say Hi!

I bought a 2003 BA xr6 Turbo In Blueprint with the T5 Transmission about 3-4 weeks ago and I'm loving the car so far :)

But unfortunately I have an issue..

Was driving along today at slow speeds and got stopped behind some traffic. After idling there for quite some time the engine started playing up..

My revs were jumping between 1200 and 400rpm the car was shaking like mad and had no power whatsoever and the orange engine light was on steady....

I know there are ways to run diagnostic tests on the car to find out exactly what went on... Does anyone have access to such documentation or have any idea how I can find out whats happening.

The engine bay was really hot... however the temperature gauge was under half way... Coolant is right up on the full mark and engine oil is fine.

Any help would be muchly appreciated.

Thanks

That doesn't sound to good, may need a flash tune. Every now and then mine does something similar by dropping right down to say 300rpm then back up again, usually when slowly rolling up to the lights. As far as engine being hot if the temp gauge is saying it's just under half then that's probably normal especially after a long run cause they tend to get pretty hot.

Sounds like a Throttle position sensor.

hard to diagnose, but if it were the T.P.S you can re-calibrate it by trying to start the car with the accelerator fully depressed to the floor. The car wont attempt to start, just turn over and apparently this recalibrates the endpoints of the T.P.S.

otherwise we are just guessing and best to go to a mechanic to get diagnosed.

That calibrates the VCT phasing doesn't it? If your TPS is playing up I doubt there's too much you can do.

Unless you have a Workshop Diagnostic System (or whatever they're called) you can't see any error codes Yourevilness....need a trip to the dealer to check that one out.

Heh oh well, Will take into note some of the suggestions above and if it happens again looks like the ford dealer will be hearing from me

Did you buy it through a dealer as they should be some statutory warranty with it.

There is still another 2 months or so statutory warranty, but I doubt they would find anything given the intermittent nature of the issue.

I noticed there was a brand new air filter etc. but I haven't checked the fuel filter yet.

I'm in the process of replacing the gearbox, dif and engine oil/filter so I'll probably replace that while I'm there
