Guest Scootre Guests Posted 07/02/04 10:06 AM Share Posted 07/02/04 10:06 AM Who closes your back left door? the wife? My wife does it twice every time.vik Me normally. I'm the regular driver. Well, actually, my missus still doesn't want to drive it. Good I say. That means no arguments when she finds out how nice it really is to drive - especially after she's been driving the EL Fmont Ghia with its rather light power steering. I don't like to slam doors on cars but this door really needs a good shove. No doubt an adjustment of the striker will fix it.
Guest Scootre Guests Posted 07/02/04 10:10 AM Share Posted 07/02/04 10:10 AM Sounds like nothing is wrong with it then...Just find a deserted road and plant the right foot.Complaints - none come to mind. Yep. She's all sweet. 'Cept for that darned rattle. Are you really serious about the trim piece with a PIN HOLE in it? You do know that you didn't buy a McLaren don't you?Look into my eyes.Mate, if I'd bought a new 4-cyl sub-$20k car and it had a defect that was not part of the design, they'd be fixing it. I'd just spent over fifty grand on this thing. It's going to be right. And the pinhole in in line of sight. Pi$$e$ me off every time I look at it. I have been surprised by the response I have received from my dealer when I mention minor issues like rattles, squeaks, intermittent thumps etc. The impression I get is like "what's the big deal?". It actually got me thinking....do people just put up with this stuff and accept it? Am I just being too fussy? I have come to this conclusion - if you are not happy with any aspect of your car that is not performing to spec then demand a fix. If we all accepted pinholes in plastics etc then how can we expect Ford to improve quality? Speak up and be heard and don't settle for the "it's a falcon" line. Guest Scootre Guests Posted 11/02/04 01:00 PM Share Posted 11/02/04 01:00 PM Good point Suuperoo. When I arrived at the dealership today with my car I was greated by the guy booking in the service as well as three of the mechanics / techs. We went thru my list and all was well except when we came to the pinhole. Really, I did feel a bit silly pointing it out... right up until I remembered the pain in my wallet after I bought this thing... and one of the guys said, 'well, not sure what we can do here because, as you can see, that trim is one continuous piece that forms the entire dash".I stood back and realised he was right. :banghead: Knowing that removing and installing the dash is a right pain and often causes more damage, I said, "well in that case let's give it a miss... though it's going to annoy me for a looong time". :( Anyway... I got a call from the service manager this arvo (he wasn't there this morning) to let me know a couple of things and he happened to mention they'd fixed the dash. Apparently they have some sort of filler that blends perfectly. He went on to say he knew how I felt about it and he has a similar problem with the dash of his new Ghia that is also driving him nuts.Oh... and then he said that they'd found a small paint run on one of the doors - from the factory - and said that he was arranging to have it resprayed for me.I tell you... I am over the moon so far with these guys. Hills Ford Hornsby... big thumbs up. Oh yeah... and when the service guys and I were going thru the list of items, I pointed out that one of the rear doors needed to be slammed to get it to shut properly. And so I demo'd it. And the bloody thing closed every single time, no matter how softly I closed it. At that point I would have been more happy if the door had fallen off the car...

joes Member 11 Member For: 21y 2m 25d Posted 12/02/04 12:29 AM Share Posted 12/02/04 12:29 AM (edited) My XR6T Sedan goes in for its 3,0000 Km complimentary check next week. Here's the list of items I've sent to the dealer. Mostly little things but just for everyone's reference anyway. It's the rattle that's killing me.Warranty work:Find and fix rattle around point where A-column and chassis meet or somewhere inside the front quarter panel.Regarding the rattle:I had a rattle comming from the engine compartment when on idle,it is a loud rattle and annoying - sometime appears when cruising. After days of trying to work out what it was I discovered it was theintercooler piping which runs under the Battery chassis. The intercoolerpipe was banging up against the bottom of the battery chassis.Given it needs some slack and requires movement for heat expansion orwhatever - I used cable ties to just pull it off, no more than 1mm, fromtouching the battery chassis.Cheers Joe Edited 12/02/04 12:32 AM by joes
Guest Scootre Guests Posted 12/02/04 11:01 AM Share Posted 12/02/04 11:01 AM JoeAmazing how a mm or so can make all the difference ain't it? Then again, it's pretty tight under the bonnet.
Guest Scootre Guests Posted 12/02/04 11:07 AM Share Posted 12/02/04 11:07 AM WellGot her back this arvo. The rattle has gone, thankfully. and all seems fine now.The headlamps were not touched. They said that Ford won't cover them for warranty if there's only a few stress fractures. They have to be actually causing probs with the lights or causing moisture to get in. OK with me. I have a 6 yr wty so they'll get to replace them eventually if the stress fractures get worse. The pinhole in the dash is gone.AND they painted the wishbones on the front end to conceal the Facttory Fitted corrosion. The rear door that wasn't closing without a slam was adjusted but of course, now it's at home it still has the same prob. Grrr. So I guess I'll wait until the 15k service to see if it wears itself in.All in all... a good experience.

Actually reading a few of the depressing stories from some XR6T owners, I am starting to think I am a little blessed.... or perhaps I have become numb to the bumps, squeaks and rattles that come with owning 70s era cars with stiff suspension and thumping carbied V8s.I'll be sure to go over it again with a fine tooth comb though just to be sure before it goes in.'nix
