Stupid question this may be but I am going to ask it anyway....

With an Xbox (I'm a playstation boy) does it have its own type of output cables much as the same as the Playstation? or is it 3 RCA's which leave the Xbox?

Cause I was thinking right, if an Xbox does have 3 rca's which leave the xbox (like a conventional dvd player) I could then use some female / male cables hooked up to a multi RCA unit adaptor and run a reversing camera? or am I just talking crap? and will need another type of adaptor for the reversing camera?

I dont need it to go on as soon as I put it in reverse, I can manually change that with the multi RCA adaptor.

Thanks

Dhiru

Looks good, but I had no luck with Inverters. I tried 3 different ones and they all inroduced audio and video noise into the system. Their one may be different though.

xr6turbs it has a custom plug at the xbox end which carries the sound and video through it.

The other end of the plug however has got RCA's or if you an still find the cable at shops (or ebay) there is a composite cable you can use also. This may be able to be wired into the ICC's wiring loom to get video directly (without having to use a multi rca adapter thing).

I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on how they went about the powersupply for the xbox? I'd rather not use an inverter if it's going to add additional audio / visual noise because I know it will just give me the sh*ts like if you use an FM transmitter on an ipod to play it through the speakers.

I would really like to get an xbox installed especially after seein this setup, plus I can get an xbox off a friend that has hardly been used!

I ended up ripping out the xbox's power supply from inside it, and installing an M2-ATX DC power supply inside it.

1/4 the size, runs off 12V and generates basically zero heat.

Cheers XF. Is this the powersupply you used?

Just another thing with the powersupply, is it hard to replace with the standard xbox powersupply? I've modded a few xboxs over the years and am half decent at soldering if that is required.

Mine was an xbox version 1.0 so my install may differ from yours (if it is a later version). It may actually be easier with a newer version of the xbox since the M2-ATX wiring loom may fit straight onto your motherboard.

Here is the M2-ATX and the sickmods converter I also purchased. The little converter changes the 5V (stand by) to a 3.3V (stand by) which the xbox power supply uses. You could probably make up your own circuit to do this, but im not sure if its just a matter of using a resistor to drop the voltage or if there is a bit more to it.

Open up the xbox to reveal the standard PSU and wiring. Since mine is xbox version 1.0 the power supply wiring plug is a single row. Yours may be a double row of pins?

Thanks to the internet finding out what all the pins were was easy. I had a pinout of all the plugs (ground, 12V, 5V, 3.3VSB...etc).

Here is a closeup of my standard power supplys plug which goes into the xboxs motherboard.

Xbox with the standard PSU removed.

Here is the modified wiring loom supplied with the M2-ATX. Their standard loom has a double row plug which comes with it. This is made to fit into PC motherboards and is not a direct fit for the xbox version 1.0. The way I went about solving this issue, was to find out which wires I did need, and stripped them out of the wiring loom. The ones which were not needed were pulled out at the other end to make things tidy. You can see all the loose wires at the bottom of the photo, all ready to plug into the xbox's motherboard.

Second photo shows the little converter added into the PSU wiring loom. It needs Ground, PSon, PSok and 5VSB which are all part of the wiring loom to operate.

I had to cut a larger hole in the xbox tray to fit the molex plug through there. mmm 320 gigs of crap hehe

This is the wiring loom all ready to be used in the xbox.

Here is the wiring loom installed onto the xbox motherboard. Double check all the wires, then tripple check them again. You dont want to do all this work, and turn it on for the first time and have your nice xbox blow up

More coming in the next post, as I have more than 10 pictures.

I glued on some rubber feet onto the little black plastic tray which the original PSU sits on top of. The mounts line up exactly with the holes on the M2-ATX and screws hold it in place perfectly.

230_3091.jpg

Here it is installed in place nice and snug.

230_3094.jpg

Had to chop another little bit of the DVD tray (I think) to let the cabling fit through or something too. Can't remember exactly, its been a while :P

Here is the trial, very scary moment flicking that little switch on the power/ignition line.. but it worked and turned on.. running on 12V. SUCCESS :) :) :)

230_3100.jpg

Also, if you rip off the face of the xbox you get to the little circuit behind the power switch. Double check with the internet, but it looks like I soldered those two pins. What this does is automatically turns on the xbox as soon as there is power supplied to the PSU/mainboard. Otherwise you have to press the power button when its in your boot..etc.

231_3104.jpg

Here is my little switch under the dash. Not visible at all unless you stick your head right down. The main 12V line to the xbox runs through there, and also the video switch line is in the same switch. This means when I turn that switch on, the M2-ATX gets its constant 12V.. but it wont turn on unless the ignition is turned on. Its kind of a master switch I guess. If I just leave it turned on all the time, as soon as I turn on the key the xbox boots up, and when I turn the key off the xbox turns itself off after 5 minutes. This time is configurable with jumpers on the m2-atx too. (can have it set for 1 hour, 2 hours...etc).

Also the switch switches the screen over to the xbox when the switch is on.

231_3122.jpg

And just for good measure, here is the xbox with the M2-ATX in there with the ground, ignition and 12V wires sticking out the back.

I hope this has helped you a bit. I've been meaning to write a tutorial on this whole thing, but I think this is probably the most I'll ever do. Any more questions just ask hey.

Mike.

Hey everyone, I installed my xbox into my car yesterday and am pretty happy with how it has turned out, but I just have a couple things that I need to sort out.

I have an M2-ATX powersupply on the xbox, but when the car is running there is a bit of video noise, what will cause this and is there any way to minimise this? It is fine when the car isn't running.

I also have a problem (or haven't got it setup correctly) with the active switch line on the M2-ATX powersupply. I have set my xbox to turn on as soon as it gets power which is fine, but with the powersupply the active switch line is supposed to stop power to the xbox motherboard when the active switch line doesn't have 12v power anymore. This is connected up to the positive on the cigarette lighter plug and I also have a switch on this line. The thing is I can turn my car off, or flick the switch on this active line and it won't turn off like I thought it should...
