I currently own a vx ss commie. now I know coming here may bring some biased opinions. duh. but some unbiased neutral information of my pros and cons against my vx compared to a xr6t would be a brilliant help. I read in an old motor mag about a tune to bring power to 330kw. I woluld be getting that done to it (motor hot tuner issue 2 if anyone is interested). my folks own an xr6 and it seems a better smoother ride compared to my car, and a bit quieter too. so that's down as a pro. what im wondering is fuel consumption? maintenance? ease of parts? will I be a cop magnet in this too as I am still on my ps? any help would be appreciated. but please no Late model camira bashing. it wont help me. just waste time.

1st thing being on your P's insurance is going to be a killer and depending on the state you may not be able to legally be able to drive one.

As for tunes, the basic edit takes you to 240rwkw which is equal to any stock HSV or FPV, how far you go after that depends on how much you are willing to spend.

These cars have faults but no more than any other ozzy made cars.

yes it will work.

If it has climate control, it involves removing the dash and is alot more work

check out the guys for changing standard sound to premium

or hunt down an ICC from a wreckers.

IF you want to up the HP you will need to piss off the standard cooler. We have a heap of site sponsors here have a look as some of their products and that should point you in the right direction.

It doesnt take much work to get over the 300RWK mark in these things.

you would need. A cooler, exhaust, valve springs (for BA models) , injectors and of course a flash tuner/edit/capa box

fuel..

I average about 10L per 100k on the freeway..

I average about 14L per 100k on my daily run of 40km (off-peak 90% city 10% freeway)

Maintenance.. some are more lucky then others, you would be used to that with a commo

parts.. its an aussie built car! wreckers are aplenty and what they dont have your local dealer will.. again probably the same as a commo

cop magnet.. I have had my car just under 3 years and am still on my P's, only because I am lazy, and have only ever had 1 cop hammer me for 15 and under cause I was speeding and unfortunatly the second I came off boost and made alot of noise he was beside me.. doh!

generally speaking the cops that have seen my car will comment on it being a nice car (its pretty low, has 19's and a big intercooler) its not your usual p-plater car so they dont have a stereotype to pigeon hole you into (such as a wrx or sorry to say commodore)

g'day mate welcome to the forums, enjoy your stay

I own a BF MK2 XR6T with the 6 Speed Semi Auto. I get slightly less fuel economny than my dad who has the 6 speed manual but the power in the auto seems more consistent. He averages about 550km per tank and I see about 500 km per tank city driving. Open road I have gotten over 650km out of the tank which isn't too bad.

I recently got a custom tune for $195 which raised my car to close to 260 rear wheel kilowatts (rwkw) which should be good for a 13.1 or 13.2 second 1/4 mile. No other modifications were necessary as it was only a Stage 1 tune and only the Injectors were holding me back from getting more. On sites like APS, there are up to 4 stages so you can see the potential of these things. The fuel economy has remained the SAME because with the turbos I can still drive comfortably under the boost but when I want it the power it's right there for the taking but obviously a heavy foot means more petrol used

I have never been trailed, looked at or singled out by any police officers in WA however cars around me (older commodores/falcons, skylines etc) get targeted all the time. Can't vouch for other states

As some people have mentioned, there are a couple of niggling problems with the BA/BF range but most are fairly well documented and you have a good support group here if you have any questions. So far I have done 15,000 km's with no problems except idiots hitting me in carparks and not leaving notes...grr...

Hope this helps,

T
