Have I Broken Something?

Hi all.

Just today the cars started doing something weird.

Normally (on my private roads) selecting first gear (6 speed auto) and using the brakes I can sit the brakes, get it spinning hard in first then slip it into second gear, let go of the brakes, and do a massive power burnout all through second gear.

However, I tried this about 4 times today (on my private road again) and as soon as I push it into second gear it seems to have a little bit of diff bounce and it just grips. I have changed nothing since I last drove it, and it almost feels like its traction control kicking in, or the TCS or something.

So I tried enabling/disabling traction control again, and also the TCS and it still does the same.

Is this an indication that something physical is on the way out, or is it my electronics playing up?

Cheers

Mike :(

How hot was it when you where doing this? Was pretty warm today. You might have just been down a bit on power, which meant you didnt have enough power to keep 2nd gear going.

The BF's with ZF tran's do all sorts of wierd things if they got hot and they think your trying to hurt them

that sucks man. goodluck explaining that to the service department. don't these things have two elements to the traction control, the breaks trim the rears and they drop cyclinders to take the power away? Does it feel like your losing power or is it something else?

Perhaps the diff bouncing its helping the rear end squat and grip up, but then you think about it, when it bounces back up the wheels would start spinning like a b#stard again?

hiddeous, yeah it was fairly hot today and the aircon was cranked fully too.. wonder if it was just that?

Bonza, yeah usually during the diff bounce I would expect it to start spinning like a mofo again! I dunno I've never had any problems ever hitting second gear at full boost and the rear not spinning. And yeah good luck explaining that to the service dept! hah that's why I thought I'd ask here straight away!

If it did exactly the same thing with traction control on and then off, you have a problem. Be careful you can snap an axle. Arron

ahh nah I probably worded that incorrectly, what I meant is that I turned the Traction Control on and then off, and then tried it again. I didn't try it with Traction Control turned on.. otherwise it wouldn't have even let me spin up first gear. Sorry for the confusion, too much sun at Motorvation today.

I think you are dead right mate.

Tried it this morning with no aircon plus a cool morning, and BINGO problem gone.

I never knew the aircon sucks out that much power, its terrible!

Someone correct me if im wrong but I was under the impression once over a certain percentage of throttle input, the air-con automatically disengages the compressor to give back some of the power lost...
