Hey guys, im in abit of a situation at the moment.

I bought my sub for the upgrade, which is a dual 4 ohm 600w RMS Rockford Fosgate T1.

Now I dont know what kind of amp I need to run it.

Must I run the amp at 4 ohm or is there some special way the sub needs to be connected (series, parallel) to run different impediances (if that makes sense)?

I was thinking of using an Alpine v12 amp to run the sub, has anyone had any experience with these amps?

thanks in advance,

jet.

Hey mate,

For a dual voice coil 4ohm sub you can either wire it for 2ohm or 8ohm (can't be done as four). I made the mistake of buying a 4 ohm amp which kept cutting out (obviously) when the sub was wired as 2ohm. To run a sub like that your best bet is to get a monoblock (sub only amplifier) which will do 600w rms @ 2ohm.

See here for wiring diagram on how to do 2 or 8ohm.

Buy you should find on the Rockford website similar info.

Hope I could help.

hi sorry to self promote/advertise/high jack but I have a Alpine PDX 1.1000 1000RMS amp for sale in very new condition. Also it will be able to hand 2xT112D4 at about 80-90% output per sub for future upgrade.

thread

The Alpine M605 and the Alpine M650 will both be fine for running the T112D4 at 2Ohm. If money is an issue get the M650 as it is a bit cheaper.

It is always better to have a bit more powerful amp then sub so you don’t strain the amp. Just so you don’t blow the sub or have the amp clip turn the gain down/ don’t play it fully up.

thanks for the offer but you're abit too far away, and that amp is abit too powerful..

Thanks to jcooke for the info aswell, looks like a 2 ohm amp should be fine.. :outahere:

Yep, grab an amp that will run 2ohm one mono... go for one of the US brands as most are designed to run 2ohm mono... id go for something with 200watts rms @ 2ohm.

The more power you have the less need to run it on the edge, will sound heaps better and more controlled (as mentioned above)

Cheers

Hmm my sub is 600 watt RMS, you sure about the 200w amp?

all you have to do is make sure that the mono amp is 2ohm stable. the 600wrms rating of the sub is the max you should feed into it continuously. that is pretty high btw.

as an example I am sending 300wrms to my subs that are rated at 200wrms and 800w max and have been for years. no matter what you get it isn't going to hurt the sub, unless there is distortion.
