Big thanks for offering your cars guys. A great gesture from both of you.

Given that all of the test coolers and piping are pretty much in the same ball park and we are not doing this to get the greatest tune possible, I would think that any tweaks to the tune would be minimal if any but I'll let the experts handle that one. Perhaps if you have a "daily" tune, that would be used rather than an "on the edge" tune that's pushing the limits of your current cooler. What is your cooler? How big, what core size/type/brand, piping size etc?

In my opinion we are after a vehicle that is in the 330 rear wheel kilowatt mark, as this is a kw figure that the average majority will be looking for. We need to remember we are testing intercoolers, not the vehicle itself and as long as the tests are all conducted in the same manner the test is accurate for all products.

We need to agree on a length of test again relevant to what most customer will see, there is simply little point running a 1 minute ramp test. This is for a number of reasons. Firstly there is not a road in Australia that you can hold a 300 plus kw XR6T flat for 1 minute [ without ending up in jail] Secondly and more importantly the rest of the vehicle cooling systems will fry giving meaningless results anyway.

We need to agree on what we are actually testing for ,IE: charge temperature increase over a given length run at a given power and boost level. Pressure drop across the intercooler at a given power and boost level. Measure externall intercooler tempertures at the top and bottom of the coolers as give a good indication of internal flow.Actual size of the cooler mind due this really tells us zero about the performance of the cooler .

I would suggest a 330 rwkw vehicle detuned to 300 rwkw, this is for consistency as we are not after power increases with this test, although there will be increases and decrease depending on intercooler performance.

Without a consistent vehicle we could get results showing low intake temps with little pressure drop and power figures could be low due to other factures. Having consistency is the key to good results .During this phase of testing the tune should be left untouched. We may if people agree look at tuning at the conclusions of each intercooler testing, for power figures, Although this has the potential of others believing that who ever is doing the tuning is sand bagging as they have alliance to one brand of product.

These are my first thoughts and are happy to here from others and are pleased to be involved.

Ps anyone keen on a plenum test!!!!!

Bloody sensational; I'll give $50.

I'm in Adelaide though, and most certainly won't be able to make the testing, unless it's on the weekend or something.

Mega kudos to Nizpro too.

Ps anyone keen on a plenum test!!!!!

Might aswell, as all the players have their own versions... Rapid has even just released a new one so I think its a good idea, as the people in the 300+rwkw bracket will probably get one eventually...

Hey guys, can we also start to consider a possible day and date. Would a weekend suite everyone. PIf Simon is agreeable, maybe we could run a sausage sizzle and make a day of it? I hear Danny turns a mean sausage.

What about after each cooler goes in measure the characteristics then drive it hard at a track (if there is one close) and then remeasure everything.

Would this seem like a good test?
