I used MOTUL for the 5.7l ss. Worked good. I used the semi synthetic as the fully synthetic is real expensive. So I plan on using MOTUL on xr6T wen I get it.

Can anyone tell me what weight to buy in semi synth or fully synthetic for a 6cyl turbo?

oh ok.

just that I was told that penrite and royal purple were top brands to go with.

and my car is close to stock anyway for everyday driving.

so still fully synthetic?

thanks!

I used Penrite last oil change (first one) and im using it again. Using HPR10 or something. I weighed up using Penrite Sin but I figure if you use a decent oil and change it often, you wont run into any dramas. I was happy to use a 5w30 oil (Castrol) in the wrx but I probably wouldnt in the XR. Perhaps a bit "thin"

I've tried Castrol, Penrite, Mobil 1, Motul turbolight, Royal Purple and Redline in the WRX and to be perfectly honest I could never tell the difference. Gearbox oil was a different story though :D

I left two oil changes for 20K kms (yep 20,000kms) using Castrol R and the Penrite and while it came out dirty the engines still strong (180K kms of solid thrashing).

Just pick an oil that meets the car manufacturers specs and change it often! that's the secret to long component life. No need to take out a mortgage on the most expensive oil in the auto shop. The trick is to change the oil before it looses its lubricating properties.

Penrite oil is fine. As are any of the others listed.

If you want to use Penrite head to their web site and use there selector. It will tell you which oil they recommend for your make/model of car.
