wiresquire Member 266 Member For: 20y 2m 5d Posted 14/01/08 08:54 AM Share Posted 14/01/08 08:54 AM (edited) My idea which I have had for years now is that all new cars are fitted with a device that picks up the speed zone (Which is transmitted from Speed Limit Signs - solor powered of course). The Device then alerts you when you go 5 kph above this limit.I hear where you're coming from. If you're driving a T, you can already set a speed sensor to chime when you go over a certain limit. I've never bothered using it. The damn speeds change every 100 meters. 70, 40, 80, 110, 40. WTF? But if you are OK with the speed sign talking to your car's device, do you have a problem with your device telling the 'signs' what your speed is? That seems an easy next step.... Let's call it version 2.0. Or "Speed Camera Plus". And I'm damn sure we could hook that right into the ticket system for a totally automated speeding ticket issuing. Hey, then we could save the cops a lot of money by not having those expensive cars and coppers out on the road. I dunno, I just have some issues with Big Brother, and the way that a lot of things seem to be heading in that direction, so I'd rather not see the first step. The assumption that most people are breaking the law is just wrong.FWIW - I don't really have a problem with 'undercover' cars. But I thought the idea of a police presence (marked cars) was as much about prevention as anything. From the articles it seems to not be about that at all. Why didn't those guys give a rats about the cops actually being there? As sure as hell, their behaviour would NOT have changed if the cops were all 'undercover'.I dunno. I'm getting old and grumpy.Hey you kids! Get off the lawn!ws Edited 14/01/08 08:55 AM by wiresquire

The assumption that most people are breaking the law is just wrong.that's when it becomes a revenue raising device and not a speed prevention tool. If the aim of the police is to reduce speeding then this system will work. At least if you get pulled over for speeding you know that you were intentionally doing it and it wasn't a momentary lapse of concentration.Ozzie

The cop also wanted to charge me for reckless driving that almost caused an accident with another car. He claimed I was doing 102/80 (no way in hell, 90 yes but not any more than that) and a car changed 3 lanes and almost drove into the side of me (would have except I nailed the brakes). Idiot cop tried to put the blame game on me that it would have been my fault. I simply said what about the fact that he obviously DIDN'T look and also DIDN'T indicate at all. Idiot cop didn't care because speeding is a better fine than not indicating. It is pretty much all about revenue!

They know where you are and what the speed limit is, and if you exceed that limit by say 10 percent, then the engine will start cutting out cylinders until car slows down. Now this would suck.Scotty

Ozziemy tomtom does just that, I set it to beep if I'm 5km's over limit and it has the speeds of street preloaded so it changes as you drive Edited 14/01/08 11:18 AM by coupeboy351

Thin edge of the wedge. You usually find find that those that support this sort of crap are the biggest hypocrites of all - do as I say not as I do.Too bad these clowns in the HWP can't find some real police work to do.
