I don't see a problem with it.

These days you can get race your mates off the roads at the drags for $50 (WSID) why would you risk doing anything stupid on the roads for the sake of losing your licence and paying a massive fine, or worse having an accident and hurting someone innocent.

Just don't do anything illegal on the roads and it won't be a problem.

I always look on the parcel shelf for the tell-tale lights and have seen the map/ newspaper/ hat covering them on numerous occasions.

Call me an old fart but I actually think its a good idea. Sure the government makes money... but the police dont. The only way they can punish is by fining. If they didnt do that, people would just do it again. Its supposed to be a deterrent. Maybe it isnt, but its supposed to be.

How many times have you been driving down the freeway and some f*ckwit in a hyundai exel goes past at 150kph in peak hour swerving between cars. Id love to see his face when he gets pulled over by a wrx p plater he didnt think was a cop. I wouldnt love to see his face when its wrapped around the back end of a b double.

The fact is... hooning is soon to be dead. I learned this a long time ago. You can try, but is it really worth having your car taken away from you when there are so many fantastic track days and friday night drags to do it legaly.

And lets face it, everyone has that 'it wont happen to me' attitude. Its amazing how your frame of mind changes when your first on the scene and see the mess.

Just my 2 cents.

I don't have a problem with them catching those who are obviously putting other lives at stake. What I don't understand and this is what they are hunting are the poor blokes that have a momtary lapse of concentration and the techo goes over 10ks in a 60 zone.

I am sure everybody on this forum has looked doen at the speedometer an noticed that they were doing 10-30ks over the speed limit. Not intentionally or not for any reason but purely because their eyes are on the road and not their dash.

Unless you set your speed alert on each new speed zone there is no way to counteract this.

My idea which I have had for years now is that all new cars are fitted with a device that picks up the speed zone (Which is transmitted from Speed Limit Signs - solor powered of course). The Device then alerts you when you go 5 kph above this limit.

This way people know when they are speeding and drivers eyes are where they should be... on the road (or footpath if theres a hot chick there). This is the only fair solution I could think of. Surely the government has earnt enough money from fines to invest in a system like this.
