Hey Guys

First Post! Started reading a few weeks ago when my hunt for XR6T's began. This forum has been a great source of information so far. Great community.

I bought a XR6T on saturday from a dealer in Adelaide (where I live), subject to the dealer providing the cars service history and fixing a cosmetic issue. The car has had two owners, one bought it from the dealer I'm buying it from new, he kept it for 19k (got the 3k and 15k service done), when he traded it back to the dealer and another guy bought it. This guy lived way up north of SA, in a tiny town. He did another 30k then traded it too. While he had it, the service book was lost and he didnt service it at the ford dealer I'm getting it from, so they have no record.

The dealer can't locate the 30k service (not sure how hard they have tried...) Does anyone know if alll the dealers are linked? I have the rego and the vin of the car if anyone happens to work in a ford service dept! I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow and apply some more pressure, coz at this stage I'm going to have to rip up the contract.

I'm not keen on a car that has no service history from 19k to 51k (where it is now). Under the carpet in the boot there was red dust galore, the 'detailers' must have missed it. Can't imagine what the airfilter was like after 30k without a change with that amount of dust!!

Externally and internally the car looks great, its one of the best I've seen, be such a shame if I have to turn it down because of missing paper work.

Any help/advice?

:stupid:

Dont get this car if you wont be happy that you cant confirm its service history.

Just wait and the right one with service books will come up.

Also, Will Ford still honour the Warranty even without the log books etc???

:crybaby:

Thanks for the advice, waiting to see what tomorrow brings, but I'm doubtful the history will turn up.

Car is out of warranty, its a 11/03. Older than I originally wanted, but its only done 51k, and its in excellent condition. Was MEANT to have full service history.

For the condition the body and interior is in, I find it so unlikely the previous owner didnt service it.

Country km's are a good thing for any engine re performance, more so on tar rds, not too bad on dirt - except if they're sucking in dust from other cars- I live rural & do 70-100,000kms on open roads, some cars fair well but not those constantly driving through dusty air. Check inside the air filter box on the engine side of the filter and into the intake- if theres dust in there I'd be concerned. Also if any service history - better theres changes every 7000km in dusty conditions.

I agree with the others - go with your gut. There's plenty of XR6T's on and coming onto the market.

Its always a gamble buying a used car. I have bought some rough looking cars that have never given me any trouble but also bought brand spankas and had nothing but grief. Like most have said if you are a bit iffy then dont. A car purchase should be a 100% decision not 50-50. Will the dealer supply a warranty?
