Hello all. I reciently got a BA MK1 XR6t 5T. I am in the process of doing the motor up as I have fixed my clutch problem with a billet lightened flywheel and an extra extra heavy duty button clutch. I have bought a capa flash tuner and a set of 42lb fuel injectors. I was just wondering how much " what is the max" boost I can run without changing the internals of putting to much stress on the motor as I dont want it to blow up in 5 months :spoton: . I have a 12PSI programme wich is tuned for the 42lb injectors.

Welcome mate,

Your problem will be the T5 transmission more so than the engine. The engine "should" be able to cope with around the 300 rwkw mark. Some of the manual owners will be along shortly to give you a power figure that the t5 will handle but it is the weak link.

Transmissions aside... a good condition motor will take 15psi happily with low intake temps and not too much crazy advance timing.

A good tuner will make it safe for you, but 15 is generally ok... theres guys running 18 and everything is fine too, so its very dependant on how its tuned and what other mods you have done.

Keep it cool and it stays alive.

No you should not have got an auto at all you made the correct choice hehe However, before you get the bug to go crazy on your mods, which WILL happen set aside say 6-7k for a T56 conversion. Your gearbox will break well before your bottom end and it will let go when you don't even expect it as mine did a few weeks ago.

As for your engine, don't worry too much about that as there are a lot of guys on here with BA MK1s like ours and well over 300 even 350+rwkw and continue to be strong. I run 12psi and the car has more than enough power for an daily driver and apart from the gearbox hasn't given me much grief at all. Runs cool on hot days, idles perfectly and I get over 500kms to a full tank. Good parts good tune you will be fine.

Your T5 won't last long with that clutch.

I'm running 330rwkw with a HD organic clutch and its lasted for a fair while now. I just got back from Byron Bay (about 1800kms) with no problems too.

I don't thrash it that much though.

On saying that, I have budgeted for a T56 conversion so when it does go soon enough I can have it on the road pretty quicly.

and the 6 spd's are happy to hand 280kw @ 15psi (for a rough guess). My biggest concern is blowing the turbo up. Can you keep the stock cooler or is an upgrade needed? Can the ECU handle the extra boost? or do u need a piggy back system?

The 6 speed manual will happily handle that power as will the 6 speed auto (wasn't sure which you were referring to). In order to get that level of boost, you'll have to have a piggy back computer (ancient tech) or an EDIT flash tuner but yes, the computer should be able to control that boost fairly easily. Other parts may not be able to though.
