There's an article in the latest Motor mag that talks about similar things.

tufgsr,

Having owned a 1996 GSR AWD Turbo, I understand what you are saying about the launches, and how tough they are.

I was not being specific about your car, but more about any car that needs to be floogged to get a good time.

Look at the M5/M3 BMW, they have launch control, this is how they got great 0-100 times, yet if you activate it more than 10 times, you void your warranty.

I am sure the new Nissan GTR will have similar conditions, as would any car maker.

Having a acceloration benchmark that did not rely on launching, would be more realworld if you ask me.

I think this 5-60 is an interesting idea, but I also think the ease in which a car is launched from a standing start is an important part of being a perfomance car....

you're right brute, the overall performance of a car is important, but at the same time, a car that does everything too easily is becoming a little detatched from what a performance car is - there has to be some sort of niggle - something that you have to put up with in order to enjoy the rawness of the car

then again, everyone has different tastes!

It all makes sense until the bit stating that the "Evo" went slower by a fair margain with its 5-60 time

Are you serious?!?!?!

I believe this would is a great idea to have 5-60 (10-100) times, as they are, IMO, a better representation of the acceleration. That being said, you do buy an AWD for the killer take off.

what about a BA with a bigger turbo, with this 10-100 it would fail badly in that test. the 0-100 is about utilizing your power and using the power in there peak rev range

I think the 10-100 is a good real world test, and that's what it is supposed to be. As its been said before, you go down to the shops and do a quarter mile run from every set of lights on your way, so this is a good indication of the torque spread in a car
