what about a BA with a bigger turbo, with this 10-100 it would fail badly in that test. the 0-100 is about utilizing your power and using the power in there peak rev range

Your kidding right ?

Why is it people think this would be a disadvantage to big powered cars.

You can get the same driver in the same car to launch it 10 times and I would think you would have at least 3 different times within 2/10th or more. this is because the 0-5mp/h or 0-8km/h is more dependant on the driver and tyres than actual motor power.

I can see this test making all the high psi 4 bangers looking pretty slow.

wont be too bad for the 4L but.

pretty good idea I think, but it shouldn't be used as the only performance benchmark for a test.

Fatz here using Trough Lolly's PC

Having a measure of 0-60, is a measure of how the car performs as a PACKAGE, thus giving us an indication on how well the car's suspension and drivetrain is sorted when comparing it with other cars of similar performance and taking into account power/weight ratio, which wheels are driven ect. There would be not one person who does not buy a car based on how it performs as a total performance package and how that meets your criteria.

If you do not have the brain power to work out the characteristics of a car based on its straight line performance and power to weight, which wheels are driven ect, you should not be in the market for a high performance vehicle as that sort of ignorance will make you a danger to yourself and everyone else behind the wheel of a high performance car.

I personally did'nt buy my XR6T on the grounds of how quick it's 0-100 times were. I was more interested in how the the car performed in everyday driving ie. 0-60 km/h and 80-120km. The fact that the car satisfied my expectations and was $5000 cheaper than the XR8 and just as quick was the reason behind my purchase.

This satisfaction only increased as I began to modify and increase the cars power. I personally favour the rolling start before flooring it. The push you back in the seat and sheer acceleration has always been my preferance compared to a standing start.

I'm not interested in what some stupid motor mag write up says. Most write ups are bias in someway and are never on a level playing field.

The best test is in your own seat of the pants experience. If you like it buy it. If not try something else.

I didnt even drive my T before I bought it I let the owner show me what it could do, from a rolling start. My 2 previous cars were AWD turbo cars but after I felt this thing pull from 20kms all the way through 140 I had to have it. Like I said earlier I think that a better judge of pure acceleration beyond 100km/h as there are a lot of cars that can cover that speed quite quickly rolling or stopped..

I am with Macssxr6t, real world overtaking, comfort for the familty etc etc, hence why a perfectly good Ford Focus was traded in because it did not meet the above criteria. I know its not the fastest launching car, in fact in all my years of driving I have only once launched a car with more than a smidgon of revs, that ended in nothing but wheelspin. Its a skill I have never developed, or practiced.

As for the 5 to 60 test, what an absolute horses ass crock of bullsh*t, I cannot make it clear enough of what an absolute wank I think this is, Drags are not done rolling, vast majority of races are not started rolling, ans ven though people should approach traffic lights in a way that they do not stop, real life this does not occur, so 0 to 60 or what ever speed you want to test is the real world test.

Lets reinvent the wheel for f*cks sake.

I am with Zap.

Sure the 5-60 does discriminate against one of the advantages of AWD (It also discriminates against good rubber too) but it does give a much better baseline performance figure for real world driving and removes/reduces the biggest variable driver skill and experience launching that vehicle .

Personally I like the 60-100 and 80-120 times the best as it really lets you know what it is going to do where you are most likely to use the power in every day driving :tonguepoke:

But then maybe I am just getting old

Sorry but that is crap. My Lancer has survived countless 6-7 grand lauches for over 5 years and I have not had one driveline issue since I bought it and the car is 13 years old.

At the end of the day who ever is quicker at the end of a 0 to 100 race is the winner plain and simple.

However having now owned the F6 for a few weeks now it would makes races a lot more interesting if you started from a roll.

Spot on,0 to 100 ks or 1/4 mile. From a standing start non of this on the roll stuff.
