Just with thieves in general is pretty unreal the amount they get away with. Not relating to cars, but up the road from my place a house was robbed. During a normal week-day a van pulled up at their house, people jumped out of it, they weren't wearing any disguises or hiding themselves and they spent a good hour getting everything from the house into the truck. Nobody reported it because everyone thought it was something normal or whatever. Owners got home to find that the only thing left was a dining room table and a few scattered clothes.

I woke one morning at 1:30am to flickering lights out the front. Pulled the blinds open to find the people across the road mini van on fire! And the house starting to catch alight as well. Called the fire dept and then when out side. I group of kids had been walking past and seen it alight. The van had been broken into and the DVD player and screens and the like had been stolen and the car torched! Arseholes. They had to have done it so quietly as I am not a good sleeper and I heard sh*t! These people broke into a car around the corner by smashing a window and the owner awoke and called the cops as well as running out to them. They drove off. The hide of these people.

Another one I know of was on a BA XR6 with 17" wheels. They came along at night and removed the 2 road side wheels. Me fitting lock nuts but dont know if that will stop them! How the hell do they do it?

Yeah, see it's a simple thing, though.

Whatever the police or security companies do, criminals are always two steps ahead. And, having the Internet as such a major media outlet doesn't help.

The websites around that show people how to do some things are incredible. I remember a website that would tell you the best way to break into every different model of Australian car without damaging the car itself. A similar website was around telling you how to ripoff ATM machines.

Well, the problem with the XR6 is that it is getting so much press that kids and vandals are doing anything to get a "memento". Whether that be a badge, a wheel or the entire car, they'll try to take it.

Having had one car stolen from me, I understand the pain of coming out or back to a car and not finding it or worse seeing it damaged or burning and unable to stop it.

I've always thought that 1500v DC run through the outer panels is a TOP way of stopping those pesky pesky persons, and as a bonus anyone with a shopping trolley gets zapped too!

*NB Just an evil thought, not a directive *

Lock nuts and top quality alarm and maybe a car watch / tracking system as well.

quiktrak system in my Mustang immediately alarms to the control room who contact the police ... they track it in real time on the road till the police get near the car and then ...

and this is the bit I like ...

the police instructr the control room to slowly shut of the fuel supply in the car and eventually when it is safe ... the control room turns the car off !!!!

the stang is a convertable and suspect to car-jacking so there is a panic switch which quietly summonds the police ....

quiktrak claim to recover the majority of cars within 15-20 minutes in a controlled fashion .... worth the money $1600 up front and $300 a year (which most insurers discount/refund)

with the wheels ... you gotta have tilt sensor ... without that you can kiss your wheels goodbye
