Hi All, great site. Ive got as you would expect an XR6T. Ive started the long road to 300 plus (rwkw) and have built a very nice exhaust system, (twin 2 1/2 inch) with a couple of special ingredients... The only thing I don't have is the 4' dump pipe to replce the stock system. Ive rang around and priced them up, for what I'm after I'm being told $470 to over $500. SAY WHAT? How can a small peice of metal cost so much when Ive built an amazing exchaust for the same price...whats the go? Are ther only a handful of people that have the science to make them and that's why they are so expensive? Or is it just me!!! Has anyone else gasped at the price for these things? And does anyone know where to find a well priced one?

Thanks

that's generally the going rate, I beleive it is due to the limited amount of shops with the equipment to bend 4" pipe. This usually ends up in an outsource situation, so the first shop charges the second shop X amount, then the second shop puts their mark up on it and charges you that, if you aren't going far over 300, just use the standard one, I am. Or you could go for a split 3.5" dump with separate wastegate pipe, these are quite good for response too

it all comes down to what it costs to run a workshop these days.

when you go to work you expect to earn a decent wage,so do workshop owners.

if they dont get a decent price why would they bother with it?

and then where will everyone go to get the bits they need?

I run a workshop and I charge $450 for a 4" dump pipe aswell, sometimes the amount of time it takes me to make them up I wonder if its even worth doing, but my customers love the service of being able to get a complete custom turbo system from me.

quality costs money, that's the bottom line really

3.5" main dump with the separate waste pipe on mine is pictured here.... sorry have no idea of the current $ - but it has been brilliant and copes with a fair whack of power (running 300 rear wheel - limited due to an attempt to get the ZF longevity issue addressed).

Good call, I really don't want to sound ungrateful, and trust me I know the hard work that goes into speed shops especially design. Just frustrating when your on a budget..
