After catchin up with the old's for Christmas me and my old man got into a bit of a discussion about old school muscle against new school boosted 6's namely his pet project an XY with the 351 and running gear out of a XB GT and my Turbo 6.

Well to cut a long story short it ended up in a challenge to take place probably early 09 due to the fact that the XY still has it's old engine in it  but he assures me it will only take him a year to be ready to "womp the piss out of my croch rocket".

They way I look at it is this gives me a year to develope the right setup to be able to smoke him over and over again when the time comes (on the track of coarse).

There is a Substantial prize invloved not to mention priceless bragging rights so it's a drag I CAN'T loose.

He tells me he will be sitting around 400hp but it will be more likely 450 I bet so my question is what sort of power will I need to be able to consistanlty beat him on the strip? Obviously if I spend a sh*t load of coin an go for 500rwkw I'll be fine but I want it to still be a sorta fair race and I don't have an endless budget, so what do you guy's think?

Oh and he seem's pretty confident as he got me a ripshift for Chrissy :spoton:

Are you still planning on running the T5? That will determine everything.

Yup  There are a few guys on here runnin them with a fair bit of power so I'll just have to run the gauntlet.

I honestly don't think you'll be able to put enough power through the box to beat him mate!

I reckon you'll need about 350rwkw to beat him, considering the weight disadvantage you have, plus I assume he's got an auto?

You could be in trouble. Some of those things go really quick!

You'll need 11's to beat it I would guess.

as your running a manual (and a T5 at that).... your going to have to have 320-350rwkw.... bolt on MT street radials for the run and if you have a perfect run you should run a high 12.

so in summary... your old man is going to smoke your arse and talk about it till his pushing up daisies!!!

since you have a year up your sleeve .. buy an auto... fit it AND RUN 300-320RWKW.... and it should be you with the bragging rights.

EDIT: im guessing your old man will run mid 12's with his setup

If I can make sure he stays under 400fwhp (well under would be good) and I have 350rwkw and a sh*t load of practice with my shifts I may be in with a chance.

That or undo 4 spark plugs...

When my car was stock I had a roll on with a 351 with an exhaust and air intake and lost.
