Man, 70, buys $29,000 truck with coins

Monday Dec 24 09:00 AEDT

By ninemsn staff

A 70-year-old man has forked out $29,000 for a new pickup truck — and paid for it entirely with spare change.

US man Paul Brant ferried a truckload of dollars and quarters (25c pieces) to an Indiana Chrysler dealership to purchase his long-awaited Dodge Ram.

He was escorted from his home to the shop by sheriff's deputies, following years of storing the coins in water jugs and coffee cans.

Brant said he had acquired his spendthrift ways from his father, who had always paid for family holidays with loose change.

"As long as you don't put your hands back in the till, it really adds up," he told Fox News.

This was not the first time Brant has used a collection of coins for a major purchase.

He bought another pickup truck in 1994 using around $41,000 in change.

"[The old truck] didn't have four-wheel drive, and living in the country, I figured I better get a new one to help get me through the snow," Brant said.

An employee at the car dealership said he had called in an armoured car to take the loose cash away.

"No bank wants to take them," he said.

that's great, talk about pinching pennies!

I had a guy buy a super pursuit with cash, took the finance operator I while to count that, so I'd hate to be counting old mates change jars!

lol, its so true! so many people finance their cars just for the fact that they are financing, be it lease or commercial hire purhase.

Usually we tell people to bring a bank cheque, its far easier - no questions asked, no counting money - easy

According to law, you can knock back anything over $5 in coins, this law is to stop you paying bills in 1 cent pieces.

If you count it and bag it yourself . no charge.

It is amazing how it adds up. I pay all my cash purchases with notes and stick all

loose change in a tin. Most years will accumulate over 2 grand
