10psi Tune

G'day all,

I've just bought a BAII XR6T manual, and after having it's 45000k service by ford discovered that it has had some kind of tune and is running 10-11psi boost. Ford reckon it should be put back to stock, but I guess they'd probably say that if you changed the rims.

The problem is that ford reckon the computer is locked and they can't put the stock tune back on, and so are recommending a new comp ($1200). I've had one issue where the vacuum hose for the turbo came unstuck, resulting in some massive boost, and some backfiring over 4000rpm, but now that's fixed it's running beautifully.

Should I leave it, go back to stock somehow, or try and get it detuned a bit somehow? I'd like the car to last a few years ideally, and I'm unsure how much damage running this kind of tune is likely to do over time. Incidentally, I've got no idea if it has any other mods. Any advice or suggestions as to what the best course of action is, and why the comp may be locked? Cheers.

I'd think a cappa flash tuner would be able to take it back to stock and it would cost less then $1200

and yes a 10psi generic tune could be bad for your car

it could have a Unichip in it, take a look at the ecu in the engine bay, if the bolts holding it in look like rivets, its the standard one, if they look like a normal bolt head or something similar, then it could have a unichip, there will also be a mesh looking wiring loom on the engine side of the ecu if it has a unichip...

Mate where do you live? Let the forum know, and we will point you in the right direction, of someone who will know how to sort this all out. Ford will f*ck you around and rip you off, nothing surer.

I'm in adelaide. I got it from a dealer, so after christmas I'll see if I can get the details of the previous owner and give them a call. Some history would be good.

Yeah a flash tuner will return it to stock settings and should be about $600 these days. Screw ford, they will try to bend ya over and take ya for a ride. Just like alot of people. and then if ya wanna tune it up in the future ya already have the flasher and get it tuned by a workshop.

I was under the impression the flash tuner stores your factory settings when you first use it, and that the car in question would no longer have the factory tune to load into the box.

Adamw is right.

I bought my flash tuner second hand and it would have been useless if the guy I baught it off did'nt flash his car back to standard.

Therefore Hendo's factory tune is vin locked in the flash unit. You really need to track down the original owner.
