Circumcising The Xr

 I got your attention - hahaha

My XR6T is the best package in any modern car. There are discussions here in many treads about the exhaust and aftermarket improvements. In my opinion there is no need to change anything. The power is more that sufficient and the exhaust is well made and does the job perfectly. BUT the sound could be improved a bit. A little deaper throughty sound would be nice. Ringing around the local exhaust places one mentioned why not cut the end exhaust off. -- ohhh ouch - I thought.

I booked it in for Friday. Not sure about the job. Can someone out there tell me quickly - will it help? will it be to noisey? Should I bother? Hate to do it and be sorry for it. A small snip at the tip may be what is needed for a cleaner more satisfying experience.

I cut the HUGE centre muffler out and replaced it with two 2 and a half inch pipes welded in its place. The sound difference is awesome. I was very worried about a drony car - and I shouldn't have been. The noise is sublime........... :D

I to had the centre muffler removed & replaced with straight pipe. It does sound different, much deeper, and a bit louder. When you first bark her up in the morning, it sounds magnificent.!!!

And yes ralph!! NO DROAN!!

Has anyone checked if this will effect warranty?

To effect your warranty, a modification must usually be linked to the problem. I would not think this possible with this mod, HOWEVER, any warranty claim is honoured at Ford's discression. If they say no to a claim, I would ask them to prove a link. Like Subaru (or Inchcape here, the importers) any antsy problem can seemingly be excused with some lame excuse, usually crap. You take your chances with anything. If Ford want to, they can use road conditions etc for excuses to not honour a warranty item.

I've removed the centre muffler. It's an improvement worth doing! No drone at all, and only slightly louder, with added burble. The centre muffler is straight through, as the rear I think, so you can see (or should that be hear) the difference is quite good, while not being loud at all!

I don't really know what you plan to do here? Are you just shortening the tip? This won't affect the sound that the car makes as it is dictated by the resonators before the tip. The tip is pretty much for looks as far as I can see.

I have spoken to Rob Bliss in Brisbane, and I will shortly replace my standard exhaust with one from hom. Starting with a 2 1/2" Cat back, and Hi flow cat and extractors later.

Even though I have an XT, he said this is more than enough to open up the breathing and sweeten the sound. :D
