well I had a manual (6-speed) BA, it was quick, but not as quick as an auto...

I have the 6-speed auto behind my XR8, it's a good box no doubt, bottom line is though, is it's still an auto and autos can't see the road ahead...

Also I think in the Turbo the old 4-speed auto is better, first gear in the 6-speed is too low, thus meaning if it kicks back to 1st coming out of a corner it's too harsh/jerky. Where as the 4-speed could go back to 1st smoothly due to it being a bit longer...

The lower first behind the 8 however does make a difference though.

it depends what you want it for dude, if you're going to mod and you like the twisties, then get the manual. If you're into drag racing and you're going to mod, get the old 4-speed ;) BUT if you're not going to mod and want just a nice relaxed cruiser, get the 6-speed auto.

When you say country, how country are we talking about, manuals are simplier and can be jump started. Personally I love manuals, the clutch is lightish, brakes lasst ages in a manual.

when the auto let go I had about 370rwkw but now have had it up graded so I hope it holds on for they cost a lot. that's why if u plan to put power through the engine get a manual

I went with the 6 speed manual and I know that the heaviness or lightness of a clutch depends on who's working it, and what other clutches they have used were like, but personally I was surprised by the lightness and user-friendliness of the stock clutch in my t. I wouldn't worry about it when making the decision, I guess it's more what sort of driving experience your after. I find that driving a manual is much more involving and really gives you a feeling of being one with the car, or being in total control, but that's me. I guess either way you'll be happy, as we all know these cars put smiles on dials no matter what the transmission.

they do, don't they?! the ute is my first auto in a very long time and I forgot how much you use the brakes!

It is for this reason that I have taken to placing my car in park everytime I need to brake. Takes engine braking to a whole new level.
