But if your only going to use it on the track and never on the road whats the problem????

This is the way to approach it :)

Just go to a smaller exhaust shop and say, "I know its illegal to run no cats on the street but im getting into some more track days (you know, doing the right thing and keeping the racing off the street!!!) and want to adjust my tunes accordingly so I can start dishing out some chop. Is there anyway we can do a straight thru 3" pipe (you wouldnt go anymore than that with the standard system) with some flanges on it so I can swap between the factory cat and the race pipe when I need to?"

You'll find most smaller places run by older guys who really dont look interested will say yes :)

A lot more effective and cheaper (I think mine cost me $100-150) than paying for a high flow cat :P Sure its bad for the environment but so is everything else we do...

Well according to advertising on Brisbane radio, correctly inflated tyres is great for the enviorment. So lets all buy gas guzzlers, or punch out our cats. Run correctly inflated tyres and all is good.

Really what f*cking morons do some people take the general public for, this whole global warming has got out of hand, for f*cks sake we have come from an ice age, no sh*t the planet is warming.

Sorry

Scotty

To stay on topic I dont care what you do with your cat, you know its illegal on the street, if you drive it onthe street you accept the consequences, they do give good power potential and they do stink. Make a decision.

How can they prove it isnt worn out and slowly emptied its contents. if u get a pipe made up itll look obvious, just rip off the exhaust closest to were the cat is, grab a pinch bar and start knockin it out, do it over a bin once u get a big enough hole on it lil bits will blow out over time.

I doubt ull get flames out of a stock system through stock mufflers and runnin not much extra power or fuel. maybe when your up around the 300-350rwkws with removing all mufflers and only having one at the back. if your gettin it tuned knock it out, cant see it lettin out that much in the way of fumes with the way in which the stock system is done.

get to it champ

It's illegal whether it's worn out or been tampered with, owners responsability, end of story

If it dies of natural causes, the residue fragments would be normally be caught in the rest of the exhaust system and be obvious, and would probably partially block the mufflers, hindering performance

I had mine knocked out last night, to rule out possibilities of this performance issue im having. The note of the car changes slightly and it increases the sound of the turbo burbling. Doesnt sound too bad! Took 15 mintes to knock out and it doesnt stink at all...I will let you know if run into any problems, bur for now I think it was a good choice :tonguepoke:

My XC runs on Shell 100, and cause it was built back in '78, and I am still retaining the original engine (kinda) I dont need to run cats. And man, that thing on warm up in my garage brings a tear to your eye, literally! And usually a headache too. Im imagining im not doing the environment a world of favours, considering how much fuel that thing chews.... but its legal!

Go figure.......
