The RS has the agility of a mongoose - a match for the Evo. But don't underestimate the Mazda3 MPS, my friend works for Mazda and said that thing beat the WRX STI and EVO in a recent rally championship.I find the quoted 0-100 time of 5.9s was a bit underwhelming for the RS (compared to Evo 5.4s / 3MPS 5.6s) , I know it'll make up for it with insane lap times, but I still like my straight line punch. The MPS's problem is that the engine dominates the whole car, they just haven't tamed it very well. At least with the RS Ford worked very hard to get it under control with the trick diff, revo knuckle and suspension mods, and it seems like they have done a pretty good job of it, unlike the MPS which apparently doesn't drive that nicely, and the RS makes more power and torque. The new MPS should be interesting, the Mazda engineers didn't bother upping the power, but have tried to tame the front end instead. Or even RWD if costs are really that high. The WRX and Lancer Ralliart are AWD, weigh less than 1.5T and cost 40K. Ford's got some serious competition. You are thinking of the 6MPS which is the 4WD version (although its more of a front bias style where the rear kicks in when needed but never more than 50% of torque to the back).Fifth gear and Top gear have driven the RS - as it turns out it is prety good.
