Yeah, I didn't think it was likely to be that cheap. The RS has the agility of a mongoose - a match for the Evo. But don't underestimate the Mazda3 MPS, my friend works for Mazda and said that thing beat the WRX STI and EVO in a recent rally championship.

I find the quoted 0-100 time of 5.9s was a bit underwhelming for the RS (compared to Evo 5.4s / 3MPS 5.6s) , I know it'll make up for it with insane lap times, but I still like my straight line punch.

The MPS's problem is that the engine dominates the whole car, they just haven't tamed it very well. At least with the RS Ford worked very hard to get it under control with the trick diff, revo knuckle and suspension mods, and it seems like they have done a pretty good job of it, unlike the MPS which apparently doesn't drive that nicely, and the RS makes more power and torque.

The new MPS should be interesting, the Mazda engineers didn't bother upping the power, but have tried to tame the front end instead.

Quote - tmac: Like I said, if they had any sense, but as we know, they don't.

Why spend the money on developing their own (which won't have the hi-tech suspension and diff, etc) when all that has already been done?

Cos they will prob just copy it, and build it here...

In the long run - call is the Aussie Bug Beast, and if it works - cheaper then the import - in the long run...

:idunno:

Like any good sales guy will know - sell what stock you already have before talking about something that it yet to exist!

heheheh

edit - my bad, didnt see the new posts...

Why would it be slower than a 3MPs when it has a tick diff and suspension, more power and more torque? - I am wondering if the wheels are too big and the tyres too low in their profile?

You know what, Ford's competition rally car was AWD, so it really sh*ts me why they didn't base the production model off that and instead opted for a cheapo FWD.

Well, considering how the RS is going to retail for around 50K-60K, I would still want AWD. Or even RWD if costs are really that high.

The WRX and Lancer Ralliart are AWD, weigh less than 1.5T and cost 40K. Ford's got some serious competition.

Probably because the RS is still FWD, when the others are AWD...

The 3MPS is Front drive as well. You are thinking of the 6MPS which is the 4WD version (although its more of a front bias style where the rear kicks in when needed but never more than 50% of torque to the back).

Fifth gear and Top gear have driven the RS - as it turns out it is prety good.
