Does anyone think I will have a hope of getting Ford to warrant it?

Didnt happen to be you that wrote into the Drive section of the Herald Sun on Friday?

Bloke had his turbo seized booked in to get it fixed and the dealership booked him in the DAY after his warranty ran out, Ford are now denying the warranty claim.....

Just a quick update. I ended getting an aftermarket GCG option through TWEAKIT.com for about $2K which lasted one 500km trip before it also blew. Can't fault Tweakit or GCG, rather it was the oil supply line which was almost completely blocked with solid carbon stemming from 3 services using mineral oil instead of full synthetic. After the first service I realised something wasn't right but believed a new mechanic when he attributed it to problems with a recent tune, very expensive lesson regarding loyalty ensued.

(NOTE: Tip to everyone who hates spending money unnecessarily. Do not trust or remain loyal to a workshop just because of previous high standards. If they replace a mechanic, check the new blood out for yourself and don't just assume the boss has employed someone equally as good as the person he replaced...Cost of this lesson to me - $6500. Cost of this advice - Free to the Ford faithful :stupid: in the hope you don't also get burnt).

Can't blame my new mechanic who tested the line on advice from GCG with an air flow test prior to fitting the replacement turbo. This guy is a one man operation, and is worth his weight in gold. When this brand new turbo blew 400km's from home, he paid for the tow home, bought all new replacement parts (inc. another turbo) fitted the lot for free and completed a full service. It should be noted that he consulted experts at GCG re: testing everything prior to fitting the new parts originally, however acknowledges he should have completed a fluid flow test in addition to the air flow test to ensure everything was in order.

Anyway hope this helps anyone caught out in similar circumstance in future. (To reiterate, know your own car, demand the best and have it evidenced, don't find a good workshop and stick with them, find a AAA mechanic and follow him wherever he goes). Thanks for all the help guys.

P.S. By the way just in case you're wondering, the aftermarket GCG Garrett turbo replacement goes great. Spools up much quicker, and though top end does lack a little compared to the factory option...I need power off the line more often than I need grunt at 250kph+ so it doesn't really phase me.

when replacing the turbo make sure that you get a new oil supply screen, as all the reading I have done indicates this is the most common cause of turbo seizure in these cars.

Was it the entire line or just the filter assy that was blocked?

The entire line was solid (except the ends so you can't pick it up visually - you MUST do a fluid test). We cut it in half and mounted it on my new mechanics wall with the 2 busted turbos as a warning to people who think cheap oil is a good way to save money on servicing. Only had 55000 km's on it when she died the first time. Replaced the oil supply screen twice. New oil screen or not, 3 services/14000km's driving with crap oil will still kill the mighty Garrett eventually.

How normal is this?

Does anyone think I will have a hope of getting Ford to warrant it?

I don't drive it hard, and I am really, really pissed off!

How much should I pay for a new one, a reco or rebuild?

I agree with senna T comments
