Guest Guests Posted 18/12/07 09:47 AM Share Posted 18/12/07 09:47 AM Actually the Ford quad-cam V8 has been considered a failure and the new motor in the Orion will be a pushrod 2-valve as well. Consider that Ford's Boss 260/290 has more valves and overhead cams but revs no higher and makes no more power than the LS2/L78. The pushrod engines are simpler and cheaper to make. The Europeans make overhead cam V8s that rev to 8,000rpm in 4 litre form, and 7,000 rpm in 6 litre form. Neither Ford nor GM match that, but they do match the power with their pushrod engines. Modern materials technology has overcome many of the limitations of using pushrods anyway. So yeah Ford will be "going backwards" too.COnsidered by who as a failure, ford has never sold as many xr8's or GT's as the current platform. The 5.oL wouldn't pass emissions so they threw their own engine together which is more than capable of holding it's own, the biggest issue with the platform is the weight. And no ford isn't going back to a push rod engine anytime soon.

Guest Guests Posted 18/12/07 09:55 AM Share Posted 18/12/07 09:55 AM yer venom xr6 im swinging towards the screw type charged XR8, I know a turbo will be faster, but the only racing ill be doing is having fun at traffic lights along with the rare motoplex strip run, I want the ride that is FUN! plus I love doing burnouts and sliding around the streets so that's selling the charged 8 for me too.For around 350 - 390rwkw would you need to do internals other than clutch on a BF XR8?A 4oorwkw xr8 vs a 4oorwkw F6 will be purley a driver's race on the street, on the track the xr8 should walk it. Was on the phone to Chris the other day while he was tuning a BF xr8 with an intercooled KB kit, 48orwkw on 14lb's. Other than fuel pump and injectors it had a full zorst that's it.A clutch is a given but the engine will be fine if you keep the factory llimiter, feed as much boost as you like into a Boss engine just don't over rev it to often as it's the tenstion stroke (High RPM's) not compression that kills them. Ford au has finally decided to have a go with the upcomning model.Clearly you havent seen any tough one's, there are plenty out there but it seems that not all of them feel the need to be a dyno queen and brag about dyno charts. here are plenty on the road, how about 11.7 from a TRUE unopened engine in a pig heavy Pursuit ute. Just ask any of the LS drag racer's and they will admit the Boss is a tough engine once modded, with a weight brake the Boss powered cars are well ahead of their LS counterpart's. Quite a change but really nice car.On topic, I think the guys here are right. A blown V8 in a classic such as a mustang etc would be ideal. $15k of mods on a T or Phoon and you do get the complete package.Nice problem to have choosing. And no S/C Pat. It will remain a stockie Edited 18/12/07 10:15 AM by Flukey
