wow, doesnt take long to get a reply on this site!

yer its interesting how many people prefer V8s for the odd weekender over the turbo, but that's understandable give city traffic.

03XR6T - thanks for the advicce but as open minded I am to holdens and fords, I am kinda a ford guy so it definately between these two, the LS6's are GREAT engines though...

Ford_esky - yer if I wasnt going to boost an 8 I would go a turbo for sure, but theres no chance I am driving a naturally aspirated ute, 6 or 8. but this has helped my decision along a bit though,

cheers for ya two cents guys,

I will post up the build in the 300+ forum in a few months either way

oh yer, Dagabond, ive seen blown 8's on here too that's why I posted this so yer... get off my back ey haha

if I was going a v8 it would definately be a Expensive Daewoo as the ls2 or l98 motors are well supported with aftermarket gear due to there popularity in the USA

but with 15k you could make a very fast xr6 T

If you want an 8, go the VZ or VE clubbie with heads, cam, exhaust, tune & CAI or even better... throw a stroker kit in the mix  I love fords but the boss motors dont rate at all when compared to the Expensive Daewoo 6L.

I'd personally go the 6T though... obviously! That's why I own one :spoton:

Its funny how the Expensive Daewoo 6L still uses a single cam pushrod engine, just have'nt caught up with the times yet ay !

Ford V8 Quad cam ... Ford I6 Twin cam we must be going backwards according to you !

Well my thoughts. After having seen quite a nice varied collection of T's and V8's at the last dyno day. Both are excellent and exciting cars. But with 15 grand on a V8, all you will get is engine mods, stock brakes and suspension. 15 grand on a T, will give you a great all round package. I dont know what a weekend car does, but I would imagine that it has to tick several boxes and the T will do that so much better than the 8.

fark that would be a hard decision !!! nothing sounds better than a tuff as fukk V8 jumping all over the place at the lights and roaring + S/C whining off on the green.....

but then again a nice T with nice deep 20" wheels good brakes and the change on engine mods would be friggen nice and farken fast.. more of a sleeper too!! everyone (except Ford Turbo drivers) expects a big rumbly V8 to blow the doors off everything..

Actually the Ford quad-cam V8 has been considered a failure and the new motor in the Orion will be a pushrod 2-valve as well. Consider that Ford's Boss 260/290 has more valves and overhead cams but revs no higher and makes no more power than the LS2/L78. The pushrod engines are simpler and cheaper to make. The Europeans make overhead cam V8s that rev to 8,000rpm in 4 litre form, and 7,000 rpm in 6 litre form. Neither Ford nor GM match that, but they do match the power with their pushrod engines. Modern materials technology has overcome many of the limitations of using pushrods anyway.

So yeah Ford will be "going backwards" too.

Get your facts right. The Orion will have a more powerful version of the current motor, and after 2010 it will have a bigger capacity SOHC Hurricane V8, with capacities ranging from 5.8 to 7 litres. Ford would not waste time with pushrods.

As for the Blown XR8 Vs Turbo, go for one of Bluepowers screw blower kits on an XR8, around 400rwkw at 10psi. Do not touch an LS Expensive Daewoo V8 as the Boss kills it when you put a blower on it as the high flowing heads come into their own with boost.
