FINALLY!!!!

All done... Picked it up last night and it was well worth the wait... It feels like a different car and until now I really didn't realise how bad my old T5 and clutch had become.

The clutch (option3) is beautiful and has taken some getting used to as I tought myself to drive this car with a clapped out POS clutch. Cruising to work this morning on the freeway I sat just below 2000rpm in 6th doing 100km/h... At 80km/h the revs sit just below 1500rpm and will actually pull quite well from that point.

Anyway it was well worth the wait (and the expense lol) and if anyone has a T5 and is even considering doing a conversion hit me with a PM ill let you take my car for spin and you will be on the phone to Mal the next day.

Thanks to Mal for the time and quality gear and Joe at Straightline performace for taking the job after never having done one of these. Now to fit the Plazmaman 800hp kit which seems to be lost is transit thanks to the muppets at "Couriers Please".... Keep up the good work :-/

I don't know if this is off topic but...

I just baught a Ba XR6T with the 5 Spd Manual. I Have just booked it it to get the whole gear box forged + a button clutch (all for 3G's). I am told that nothing I do to the gear box will break it!! Has anyone ever done or heard of doing this???

can't say I've ever heard of this, I have heard of alot of 5spds exploding though. Do they give a warranty with that claim?

Dont do it, there are T56 boxes on here that are for sale around the 3g mark. Stuffing around with the 5 speed will be a waste.

I was told the same thing actually. the guy who told me that proceeded to tell me the t56 was no good and his short ratio t5 gearset was awesome. I asked if it had a warranty and could hold 600nm. no response to the question but was told a t56 wouldn't manage it either.

needless to say I now have a t56.

please report back when it is all done with your thoughts but. I am sure others will be as interested as me to see how it goes! what power etc are you running?

I only just bought the car so it is standard. This is the first thing I'm doing. I figgure its better to do the mod now and not worry about having any gearbox problems later.

I have a friend who had exactly the same thing done to his s13 silvia. It pushes neally 300rwkw and he absolutely thrashes it. Hasn't had a problem at all in the year since he had it done.

I am told the the t5 ratios are better because you can hold 3rd a bit longer.

I had mates with Sil's and heaps of Jap stuff, but our xr6's are completely different. We have heaps of torque that the gear boxes have to take. Also I have a t5 in my Ute and about 285 rwkw, and the only reason its holding together is that is cannot get any grip.

Good luck if you do go the rebuilt T5 but I would hate to see you waste your money, when the T56's are proven product.

We'll have to wait and see. I'll be sure to post when I have ran the gear box and tested it out. It still wont have any other mods so we'll have to wait a while before we know for sure!!

I am confident it will at least last me a year because I won't be going completly crazy on the engine for at least that long!!
