Gday Folks,

Have long been a forum member since getting an interest in the XR6T back in 2003 but have never had much to post about as I had never purchased one. Recently I was looking to consolidate my two cars (Mazda6 daily driver and modified MX5 road/track car) and fell in love with the FPV marketing work for the R Spec - the CGI white one. I was keen on one however thought that the RRP + on roads was a bit of a stretch. As it turned out I became aware of a white manual R Spec located at Etheridge Ford in Melbourne and the price was very sharp indeed - some 7k sharper than the Sydney dealer I spoke to who had a white manual. So I thought bugger it, and put a deposit down.

So, I sold the MX5 toy, and packed up the Mazda6 with the missus on Friday arvo and set out on a most memorable road trip. Overnighted in Gundagai (and a can recommend the Gundagai District Services club for a steak and schooner :Welcome2FordXR6t: ) and over dinner the missus pulls out a gift, turns out to be a FPV key ring! what a woman eh.

So head off to bed, just like a kid on the night before christmas (yes, I was one of those mongrel mercenary kids who is up at 4am sniffing around the tree). Anyway, couldnt sleep real well and lying there at 230am ask the Mrs if she is awake....lo and behold she is, so we make the decision to head off at 245am on the road to Ringwood, Melbourne. Was a nice and easy drive until we hit Melbournes outer suburbs and then we pull out the "where is" directions which prove to be very ordinary indeed! (note to self, bring a map next time you idiot!) finally rock up at Ringwood a bit after 9. Meet with Andrew and then head out to the service area to see the beast....fantastic looks just as good as I had hoped! Do the paperwork and all goes very smoothly (Thanks to Andrew and finance guy Paul) and

on their suggestion take the scenic route back to Seymour via Yea.

So I get to give it a little of a run on the way back, and I must say the car is everything I had hoped (this is the first phoon I've driven, only driven a BF 2 XR6T auto) and the T56 box is a joy to use. The most impressive thing as you blokes would know is the wall of torque, this car is a fantastic grand tourer. Took a scenic route on the way home and came back in to Gundagai via Tumut, the road would have been 15klms and did not see a vehicle in either direction the whole way! got to get a good feel of the car and was very impressed with its cross country ability, the R Spec shock valving seems spot on for Aussie backroads. Very impressive overall.

Anyway, spent the night in Gundagai and came home to Sydney today, the beast now has 1004 klms on it and I am extremely happy so far. Here is a couple of shots I took:

Cheers

Rob

Nice quick way of running her in. So when does she get the edit?

Thanks for the comments lads. What I am most happy with is the ride height, on 19's 245/35 it is as low as I could go with my driveway, another 1.5-2cms and I would be in trouble. I reckon lookswise its pretty good indeed for a stock car.

re edit : not for quite while yet mate....would like to keep the warranty intact. However, it will definately happen in due course, an extra 30-40kw would be sweet. Car is a daily driver and sees lots of traffic so wont be doing any underbonnet tweaking beyond a good tune. I will be playing with the suspension a little though, will look at swaybars first I reckon.

Nah, not on this one......I've done lots of $$$ modifying in the past and those days are over. My tweaks from now will just be small stuff, playing with sway bars, shocks, alingment, bushes etc, replacing rotors with the alloy hat type when they need replacing, slightly more aggresive pads etc. And a tune, but tune only dammit!

(trying to convince self :surrenderwave: )
