We are having the Xtreme clutch replaced and am now with the dilemma of what to put in. The more I read the more confussed I am getting. So help me out???

You can see the work and numbers in our sig. left to do is just the exhaust and then cosmetics.

It is mainly a 3rd car so not quite a daily driver, it goes to the drags about once a month, I need to be able to drive it as well as Mark and no shudder is what we would prefer. (Grandma wont get in with the shudder and I cant stand her driving or car....)

So assuming that the $$'s isn't the question, it is seriously which is better and going to give us what we want.

I know what I'm thinking but as my mother so kindly pointed out I'm no car genius.

thanks guys

Deonie

I voted for MW Opt 3, from what I've read, everyone who uses it is a happy camper, and the phoon clutch is apparently expensive for what you get

My 2c

IMHO not really a fair comparision. Opt three is a single plate organice clutch. The AP clutch out of the Phoon is a twin plate. Once the Phoon clutch has ceramic disc fitted its boom proof. I have an option 4 which is basicaly a opt three with cerametallic disc and driveablilty is slightly compromised with the cerametallic disc (ie slight shuddering when taking off from the lights and driving slowly up steep driveways etc)

My next clutch will be an AP racing clutch with cerametallic disc after driving a couple of cars with this set up im convinced you have the strength of the cerametallic discs and the driveabiltiy of the twin plate. Im not saying the opt 4 is a bad clutch its just not a clutch you can be a lazy driver with. I will also look at the opt5 from Mal and the wog clutch as Brendan seems to be very happy with his.

my 2c. other opinions may vary........... :type:

BTW i didnt vote for either as i dont realy think you can compare the two.

I voted mal wood as they have proven results to handle 350rwkw... and mine seems to do the trick :type: Nice to drive & strong!

as Hiddeous said, they are completely different clutchs in construction AND price!

Option 3 is a great street clutch, its ok for the occasional drag day, but I am not sure it will stand up to repeated drag strip abuse.

the wifes car has the mal woods option 3 clutch in it.... I drove her car recently for the first time in a while and noticed that the clutch is just about to give up the ghost....

before I bought the ute I drove her car every weekend... It had just on 300rwkw and the clutch held up a treat.... After I bought the ute I returned her car back to stock (except clutch) and its now about dead..... Considering that she rides the clutch on take off I think that the mal wood option 3 has been pretty darn good..... its lasted a year and half and a year of that with 300+rwkw.

as for the other clutch I cant comment as I know nothing about it.

If cost is no option then the Phoon AP Clutch is the Go.

Ben and I both run ours many times down the Plex (Both well over 300~350rwks) and never had a drama. Simon runs his phoon AP clutch with ceramic plates at over 500RWkws! and the pedal is great. Anyone including your grandmother could drive it.

I saw Brendons twin plate that he got from the wog and its very well made also but you would have to ask him how it goes when you sidestep it @ 4,500rpm.

The good thing with the Phoon clutch is you only need to depress the pedal 1” when changing. Great for quick changes like Ben has shown.

Everyone I now with a MW clutch complain about a stiff pedal and shuddering.
