I used to have a mod chipped original xbox, it was unreal! Had all the games loaded on there, and you could hook it straight into your home network and watch movies and stuff straight off your computer. The 360 is a nightmare. It will play movies off the network after an inordinate amount of stuffing about, and even then you can only play certain ones. I got over it and use my laptop for that now. Stupid xbox. I tried a mod similar to the one you are talking about, I think it was called Tversity or something. Supposed to let you stream anything as it converts things to the right format on-the-fly for you. However, again its nearly impossible to set up, makes your computer crash like a bastard and also reduces the quality you can view at. Long story short, use a laptop and save yourself the hernia. Guest newl Guests Posted 18/12/07 06:19 AM Share Posted 18/12/07 06:19 AM I bought a Sarotech DVP-260 a couple of months back ($154 for the doover and $80 for the HD). It has been one of the best gizmos that I have bought in quite some time and has played everything I have thrown at it thus far. Guest Wingnut Guests Posted 18/12/07 06:57 AM Share Posted 18/12/07 06:57 AM X360 was rushed to the market and suffered accordingly. The first few batches had over heating problems and I was returning 50% of my sold units back to Microsoft under warranty. Just recently they sent out a large amount of units with hard drive failures, which cost the company serious coin. I think they are releasing a new system that has HDMI output as well as a HDD drive and that’s the one you want. At this point in time if you are willing to spend $700 on a gaming console the PS3 is by far the better option, as its multi media functions are incredibly effective and very easy to use. Couple that with its Blue Ray player and you really can't beat it considering the next cheapest Blue Ray player is a Samsung which retails for around the same price. There are select titles on 360 that will never be on PS3 but it is a small price to pay for the quality of product. You can now download quite a few games and save them to the HD.
