From all the responses I have received and what I can find on the Internet, it appears that while this is normal behaviour on the XR6 turbo, it's not *good* for the turbo itself and could possibly be because the factory BOV isn't matched to the motor.

Could it be that in the endless quest for using parts which are good enough for the job (and no better), Ford has fitted a BOV which is marginal? Might be time for one of those stealth FX BOVs.

I dunno what you mean about the BOV being between the airbox and the turbo, as obviously this part of the intake system isnt pressurised. Any BOV you can buy would obviously be fitted on the output side of the turbo (I.E what is the point of a BOV for a section of intake that is constantly in vacuum?) The turbosmart ones come in a few different forms. You can buy a Kompact series dual port that vents both to atmosphere and also to your intake. In this case it would pipe straight into the locationo f the standard BOV. I believe they bolt straight on. If you bought the one that vents straight to atmosphere with no venting to intake then you would block off the return pipe to the intake with the provided cap as all your air would escape to atmosphere.

Hope this helps mate. Also, I noticed the flutter too as soon as I hooked up the 2nd cold air intake. Sounds pretty cool I rekon! Sounds like its normal though.

It will be fine while the car reamains stock, don't worry.

Yay! Best answer yet, thanks Tony. I noticed that the stock BOV is on the back of the manifold. Does that mean the factory BOV is between the airbox and the turbo (I.e. the "wrong" side) rather than between the turbo output and the throttle body (after the intercooler).

I noticed that the Turbosmart guys get you to block off the existing BOV plumbing and plumb theirs into the intake hose closest to the throttle body. I can't tell if that's because their BOV won't fit where the stock one goes, or if theirs is more efficient because it's on the side of the turbo where the BOV would be best located to reduce pressure on the turbine blades...

I don't go into the details.

I just give money to the "dynowog" and he makes my car go fast.

305rwkw... Very Nice.. I like....
