Adam I know they used MOTEC on the xr6t engine on the engine dyno but this was on Simons 6.0 litre quad turbo ski race engine it was a Ford ECU and he was tuning it LIVE. In fact it was a pair of genuine ford ecu,s one for boost control and one eletric throttle and the other for the other throttle along with the 8 injectors and coils.

Fair enough...

Since this is all about the XR6T engine I assumed you were referring to them.

They were XR6T and XR8 ecu's as far as I understand it he can do live tuning to XR6T'S but cant save the file to the CAPA software so the flash box just stores the live tune file as the standard car file that you cannot edit with the flash box so the flash box become useless. He has been working on this for 4 months and the progress with the race engine tuning live can carry across to to XR6T.

I too was originally hoping to run the factory ECU in my XR6-T/XF Flacon conversion. And the people who were willing to help me STILL think it can be done. From what I can gather the biggest issue is the non-live tuning (Look into the SCT tuner as I think this is real time).

From what I've been told the 'Flash tuner' can do what ever you want it to do (If you know what your doing), but since it's not live you have to first figure out what you want to do (Most I talked to were not 100% with what needs to be done).

The way they were going to figure it out was to aquire a donor BA XR6-T Hook my ECU into it, and keep removing unrelevant code untill it worked. To me this seemed to be a very labour intensive (expensive) excersise - It could take days to figure out what code needs to be removed and what needs to stay, and I'd need to have the donor call and the tuner, and my car all together untill it is sorted.

For me I'm going with either a WOG Ecu, or a V500 Wolf (leaning towards the Wog, as he seems to know everything about these engines and is willing to share it with me/us) But as he has said to me my decision must include what my installer/tuner is comfortable with (which is the Wolf)

The Duel VCT is Hydrulicly controlled so most newer ECUs can control them (it works the same as Toyotas VVTi system)

So unless you want to be the Guinie Pig and get all this done to use the factory ECU (once done though, you could make $$ of selling it to others) It looks like a aftermarket ECU is still the way to go

Nizpro have confirmed that they use the BA ECU with no security guff on their engine dyno.

Simon didnt seem too keen to share how he did it though.

I would still love to run the stock ECU so I can have cam control and use an edit box like everyone else but I dont have the patience to experiment so Im using a wog ecu as well.

I would swap to the standard ECU in a second if I knew how it could be done. :(

Someone has also told me that chiptorque are able to mod the standard ECU so its plug and play without the security stuff. I havent got a confirmation on this though. Its something I heard on the internet.
