Loss Of Power

:( My XR6T has travelled 2,000KM. When travelling along the highway at 100KPH I eased my right foot down to overtake and the engine ran rough, spluttering, etc. I had to back off and try again to get power.

This has since happened 5 times when the tacho hits 3000RPM, but I know when I take it to the dealer and they drive the car the fault will not appear. Its one of those intermittent problems.

Seems to me there is a fuel mix or starvation problem.

Any thoughts on what this could be ( I run on Mobil Premium Unleaded) ?.

I live in the Northwest of Melbourne. Any recommednations on the best dealer to service the car (the selling dealer is in Geelong).

WestPoint is a site sponsor and have looked after many of our members.

I reckon it could be some false messages that are running through your ecu but I'm guessing ... is it an auto? maybe someone has had a similar prob before

cheers

I have the same minor hiccup with mine and think there is a fuel mix or starvation problem to.

My car has only 1500km on it April build and has did it ( Same ) 5 times when the tacho hits 3000RPM it could be false messages that are running through our ecu. Mine is an AUTO to.

I used to run on Mobil Premium Unleaded plus senergy 8000 from time to time but am now thinking it could also be crap fuel and have since changed to Shell optimax 98 ron hasn't done it for a week now but I am taking it in to my dealer Courtney & Patterson on wednesday 2nd to try and get this intermittent problem fixed.

Happened to me twice.

Both times into the throtle but up it. Once from a 60klm up zone he other from105 up.

Both times into the limp home mode BS - and lets face it limp home is more like "pray for a break home"

It seems like a problem with the input hrough my righ foot into the ECU.

I want this Shyte fixed, the last time I was not funny, buy a car that should 'go' when asked and it dies. I was on a country road saw the right gap and said "let's go". It decided to die instead.

Nup, never happened to me.

Only loss of power I've experienced is when you hit the rev limiter. :D

Mefinks Ford might like to take a look at the.... 'bogging down' issue.

Someone did put a post in saying you can get the 'performance' mode set to be ON all the time, no cost option ,software switch, cost ya in fuel though. Anyone else had it done?

I travelled up to Falls Creek and back this week and the problem occurred several times - once while overtaking, which was a bit hairy.

I know think the problem (I.e. loss of power) occurs because the motor runs on less than six cylinders when I squeeze on the power from 80K to 100K up.

I also suspect this problem might have been be caused by a bad batch of petrol (Mobil Premium) because after I filled up again (with Castrol Premium) the problem has not shown up. However, as the problem is intermittent, its too early to make the call that its due to bad petrol. More travel needed before I can be sure.

The car is now due for the 3000Km check up. I'll ask the dealer to look at it.
