Just to update this topic, my dealer could not find any problem, but I think I now know what is happening. If I turn the car off in Neutral, move the shifter into Park then restart, the sequential shift will not work. I must always stop and start the vehicle in the same position (Neutral or Park) for the SSS to work. Pretty weird...

Sounds a bit quirky - but so long as you know, it is easy enough to cope with - glad your problem was simple in the end and no major problem in the transmission itself.

I ALWAYS turn my car off in park. and therefore I ALWAYS start the car in park. And ive never had a problem.

Why do you turn it off in neutral?

Not that I leave it in N, but it stops the gearbox taking up the load if you park on a slight hill. I normally pull the handbrake up, take my foot of the brake pedal, then just sit it in N for a couple of seconds, then move it to Park and turn it off. Stops the "Clunk" when you move it from Park to Drive

I always do this plus stick it in neutral when waiting in traff jams and long red lights, (got me 190,000 k's out of my EF without problem, towing heaps). Might also been luck!!!
