Standard Exhaust System Ford Is Good

Had a good talk to my exhaust shop and I did not know that to keep the XR6T down in power and sound ,the standard exhaust system back muffler is only a 2" muffler inside same as the center.

They said to piss both off if you want more power or just do a 2 1/2 x 2 system all the way, AND NOT A 3" they said 2 1/2 + 2 1/2 = 5" so who would go down in size to 3".

$400 to put in the back muffler and 2 hot dogs in the center .

Although I agree a bigger exhaust is better, the standard one will handle over 300 rwkws

Your exhaust shop is a bit wrong though, twin 2.5 is now where near the same area as a 5 " system, it is bigger than a single 3" but a single 3.5" would flow more than ythe twin 2.5"

area of a circle = pie.r^2

2 x 2.5inch

2x(3.14159x2.5x2.5) = 39.27 inches square

3 inch

3.14159x3x3 = 28.27 inches square

.: 38% bigger cross section area. NOT double 2.5 :sleepystuff:

FYI... 3.5 inch single = 38.48 inches square

I suggest you redo those calcs, as they overstate the true values enormously.

You have used diameter instead of radius in those calculations.

I.e 2.5" is the diameter, not the radius.

Also note that the 2.5" is the OD, not the ID, so you lose about 1/8" due to pipe thickness.

WOW, and that looked really impressive SCRIBR!

When I was going to put the exhaust on my car, my exhaust guy told me that "roughly" a dual 2.5" works out around 3.75" in regards to flow, but apparently the dual 2.5's give you better low down torque..

you lose a lot of knowledge after 5 years out of school

That's nothing; I finished Uni over 30 years ago!.... but the lost brain cell count is more a case of more related to alcohol consumed rather than years left school, and you therefore lose most in the earliest years after leaving school (sort of like car depreciation)... so your error is easily excused!
