Hi Guys, I have an May 06 tornado with 22000km. I've noticed cracks appearing on the mags in what appears to be the protecting coating of the mag. It's on all 4 four, the leading edge on the drivers side and the trailing edge of the passanger side. This rules out any "pick ups" from the road. Any thoughts or ideas would be appriciated

My GTP copies have the same on one of the rims. Bought them second hand so not sure what has caused it at all.

Im still curious to see what causes it though.

Thanks for the feedback. No I don't travel on gravel roads, which might explain the marks on the leading edge, but they are on the trailing edge on the other side of the car. In other words as you look at the mag the marks come from the clockwise side of the spoke. ?? Is that as clear mud or what. As for detailing, I have just aquired the vehicle 3 months ago, so that side of its history I'm not sure about. There is surposed to be a mag repair/reconditioning place in Malaga so I will go and get their opion.

Trust Wilkos word, he repairs wheels for a living..

BTW wilko, wheels look great, thanks again!

To the O.P, they probably need re-clear coating...

P.M Wilko he'll look after you.

Gav

those marks are corosion under the clear. its oxidisation on the alloy.

I had something similar on the same wheels from my 2004 BA Typhoon. All forur wheels were replaced under warranty after 3 developed cracks in the clear coat - but mine were on the grey painted area - not on the front machined face. They weren't really cracks either - that's how they started but then they flaked off and left no clear coat on a patch about the size of a 10 cent or 20 cent piece.

I think there have been others who suffered the same as mine since FPV seemed to know a bit about the probelm when the service guys placed the call to them.

He is correct . You need to sort it out or it will get worse. Is it still under warranty?

The cracks in the coating on the leading edge could be from small rocks and sand flicked up by passing traffic the reason it is on the trailing side on the passengers side is the wheels have been rotated well that's my theory and that's all it is a theory hahaha
