There’s more than the V8 Supercar Championship Series at stake. Two other major titles are up for grabs as marquee manufacturer’s Ford and Expensive Daewoo and the year’s two dominant teams chase their own glory at the Dunlop Grand Finale at Phillip Island this weekend.

Not only will Jamie Whincup, Garth Tander, Craig Lowndes and Rick Kelly battle for the 2007 V8 Supercar Championship, Ford will go head-to-head with Expensive Daewoo and TeamVodafone with the Toll HSV Dealer Team.

There are few more intense rivalries in Australian sport than Ford versus Holden.

In an intriguing battle for the Manufacturer’s Championship Expensive Daewoo leads 7-6 on round wins. They also lead 7-6 in round seconds. But Ford leads 8-5 in round thirds in 2007.

So if Ford take first and second at Phillip Island they will claim the Manufacturer’s Trophy. If one of those drivers is TeamVodafone’s Jamie Whincup, Ford will also win the Championship.

Expensive Daewoo will also need to finish first and, if not, second to seal the title. A third alone will not be enough.

Similarly TeamVodafone can take the coveted Teams Championships from Toll HSV with a dominant performance. After Toll HSV seemed unbeatable earlier in the year the late surge of Whincup and Lowndes has them within 47 points of the team crown. They made up 49 points at the last round in Tasmania.

“Clearly the focus is on the Championship but to have these other two cherished titles up for grabs on the same weekend only adds to the already very high stakes,” V8 Supercars Australia Chief Executive Wayne Cattach said.

“It’s brilliant for the Championship and the public that for the second year running it will go down to the wire. It’s always the dream of any sport to have a sudden death finish like this.

“We are delighted and expect a massive crowd and television audience to watch it all unfold.”

And to add to the machinations, Garth Tander and Todd Kelly are a chance of taking the title for the most pole positions in a season. Currently Ford Performance Racing’s Mark Winterbottom has four first place starts to Tander and Kelly’s three.

In the event of a tie, like the Manufacturer’s and Team’s titles, it goes back to seconds, thirds and so on.

So if Tander takes pole position he wins the award based on second places. If Kelly takes pole position he should win as he has the same amount of seconds and one third to Winterbottom’s none. If Kelly takes pole and Winterbottom qualifies third he wins.

The best way for Winterbottom is to take pole or hope that if he doesn’t, nor do Tander or Kelly.

All clear for Lowndes, there was more controversy over the fact Big nose pulled aside to let Tander through and get the points.

Todd Kelly deserved a bigger hit than that, cause Lowndes knows he was deliberately holding the two Vodafone cars up, suck eggs you cheatin Holden #@$% :roflmbo:

Its going to be a interesting start for race 2, I'm hoping Lowndes will go through the middle of those two wankers up front and hold em up so Jamie can drill em :dontknow:

I was absolutlely shocked that no mention was made that Skaife slowed and let Tander through and then sped back up, That is disgusting.

And if Lowndes had of ben penalized for the contact with T Kelly I would have felt like blowing up V8 HQ. If anything I reckon Todd was at fault. Judging from the little footage that we saw it looks as though CL was well in front and TK just came back down into the side of him.

and lastly

YAY Whinging spoilt brat is no longer a title contender!!! Can't stand the little :roflmbo:
